1929 Riley Ford 3.3 litre special
Known as "The John Garden Special" or "Beagle" this is one of four cars built by John Garden in the 1940's. Also listed by chassis number in David Styles Riley book, "As Old as the Industry". 1926 Riley chassis with 8' wheelbase and 4' track. Riley axles, 13" hydro mechanical brakes. Ford 3.3 model A engine with; pressure fed crank, Thomas hc head, trials cam, Mallory distributor, twin downdraft SU carbs, Approx 80 bhp + loads of torque. Ford close ratio A gearbox mated to original modified Riley torque tube rear axle. 4.1 ratio, 4 star diff (20 mph per 1000rpm). Spare 3.25 diff. Torque control rods, multi disc Hartford shoxs, vintage instruments, leather seats, tonneau cover, square aero screens, 2 sets of rear wheels/tyres. Well built versatile car, fully road legal and road registered it has won VSCC awards in Speed Trials, Driving Tests, Hillclimbs and Trials. Set up for VSCC trials by Jon Rose it achieved 2nd and 3rd class awards straight away. Very able to achieve awards without further development.
