Vintage and Prestige are proud to offer this 1949 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith James Young touring limousine For Sale.

Chassis WGC21
Engine W220C

The vehicle was originally exhibited at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1949.

We have the build records and these show the car’s original specification was to have grey wheel and controls and grey woodwork.

R-R then cancelled the order for the show and the car reverted to a more standard finish, but was ultimately shown at Earls Court but on the James Young stand.

There are service records after test until 1951 in the name E Holden, until 1958 when petrol flap door, lock and keys and a door handle were ordered, then in 1965 the car had paintwork attention.

In 1968 this Silver Wraith was purchased by Peter Thomas from a dealer for £550, and paid for by part-exchanging a Hillman Imp and a 52 Mk VI Bentley for £250 each! Peter was an engineer and a member of the R-REC and founded the Essex Section of same.

He did a lot of work on the car and we have invoices including new pistons, rings and bearings plus lots of smaller items from Rolls-Royce.

He had chrome work in 1986 and 1995, and in 1991 new piston rings, various gaskets, brake linings and cylinder kits.

Purchased by the current owner in 2003 from Peter Thomas when he realised advancing age and waist meant he was never going to complete the long restoration which remained unfinished.

Harvey Wash, a well known Rolls-Royce Specialist Association member, completed the remaining mechanical work required including supplying a new Calorstat so the radiator vanes work.

Pete McCulloch of Maldon carried out a bare-metal respray in ebony (deep black) over a light ivory.

All chromework, including the P90 headlights, had already been refinished. The vehicle is in pre-war style and has a division. The rear is trimmed in a light fawn whilst we have had the front compartment retrimmed in a light ivory leather with black moulding and black carpets.

Serviced since by Harvey Wash and in 2013 had new clutch and brake overhaul by P & A Wood. Subsequently also new exhaust rear silencer, tail pipe and manifold section.

The car is running on correct 6.50 x 17 cross-ply tyres.

Recently has received attention with John Smith of Wren Renovations who has refurbished the steering wheel, fitted a set of new exterior door handles and attended to a couple of paint blemishes.
