A stunningly restored Stanley 735A from 1921 needing final recommissioning.

The earlier history of this Stanley is missing and the first information we have about it is that it was restored in the UK in the early 1990s to a high standard. The restoration made use of a boiler produced by reputable boiler maker JR Goold (No. 006, construction 24/7/1992). From then, it was used for several years before being laid up. From 2000, it was kept in a heated garage for around 19 years until being purchased by the current owner. The current owner has spent a lot of time recommissioning this 735A however, as we are sure you are aware, steam cars typically require specialist knowledge to run and the owner has got as far as he safely can so now wishes to sell it in virtually recommissioned condition for the buyer to finalise and enjoy.

It has a new hydraulic inspection however will need a thorough check over prior to steaming to ensure it is good to go and to complete the steam test. The 735A has had a new superheater made by JR Goold. The owner has also fitted new steam pipework and a new throttle shaft. The safety valves and fuel feed have been refurbished and the pressure gauges have been calibrated. It comes with a selection of spares including steam oil, crankcase oil, a tube expander, pressure gauge, boiler insulation and some gland packing. The V5C is present with the correct numbers and registration number. This is accompanied by a folder of paperwork dating back to the 90s restoration, including invoices for work done in the most recent recommissioning, so far.

Overall, this is a stunning steam car and an example of a model which we don’t see particularly frequently, especially in this kind of condition. It has been priced to account for its need for that final bit of recommissioning and is therefore being sold in as seen condition. We are certain that anyone taking the time to come and view this car in our showroom will not be disappointed.
