Announced to the worlds press in 1950, the new DB2 was the first production Aston Martin equipped with a new 2.6 litre, 6 cylinder twin cam engine, designed under the guidance of W.O. Bentley and race proven at Le Mans in 1949 and 1950. An advanced new chassis, clothed in an aerodynamic aluminium body, the uncomplicated and lightweight design was noted for its simplicity of line and pleasing proportions. Agile for the period and with a top speed of 117 mph, the DB2 ushered in a new and successful era for Aston Martin during the 1950s.

The car we are offering, produced in October 1952 and delivered through agents Brooklands of Bond Street, to its first South Kensington owner, was maintained by Aston Martin themselves until 1959, having changed hands in 1955. By 1983 the car was sold in a dilapidated state and remained in poor condition until changing hands again in 2012, after which a 3 year ‘body off’ restoration took place, carried out by highly respected Aston Martin specialists, for a well-known Aston Martin collector and racer. Meticulous attention to period detail during the rebuild has culminated in the outstanding car now being offered, 2 years after completion. Professionally stored since and used for entry into concours events and on short tours, the current condition is testament to the high quality of the restoration works.

A detailed description, invoices and multiple photographs of the restoration carried out to this car are included in the history file and clearly confirm, the quality and detail of workmanship carried.

Finished in non-metallic Mist Grey with new Connolly Vaumol hides in Fawn and Grey Wilton carpeting, the car sits on body coloured Tourrino alloy and steel rimmed wheels and displays a superb period aura.

With lightweight, agile handling, smooth six cylinder power and ample cabin space, the DB2 has become a firm favourite and is eligible for many historic tours including the annual Mille Miglia retrospective.

Described in period Aston Martin marketing materials as ‘Race Breed Luxury’ the DB2 was commented on by Autosport magazine’s John Bolster as, “remarkable for its comfort and luxury”. Sophisticated and purposeful, the basis of the DB2’s advanced design stood the test of time and stayed in production until 1959.

A superb addition for any collection, this restored example of the ground breaking DB2, is available for inspection now at our West London showrooms.
