For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a 1971 Lincoln Continental MK III. This comfy cruiser from 1971 was one of the classiest forms of transportation. If you pulled up in one of these when new, your neighbors may wonder if you have other means of income. When new, this Lincoln stickered for $8,813. A new Corvette only cost $5,259. Plentiful equipment and top notch technology assisted with the high sticker price. Equipment consisted of power leather seats, power windows, power locks and power brakes that featured Lincoln's Sure-Track Braking system. This was a very early ABS system that would control rear brake lock up. The rear brakes would apply and release up to 4 cycles per second. The dash has a genuine Walnut wood veneer and a very stylish array of gauges. Motor Trend noted the MK III as the king of the hill in a comparison test with the Eldorado. MK III production was less than the Eldorado, so you could call the MK III a rarer car! Power came from the well known and reliable torque monster 460 cubic inch Big Block V8. This was coupled with the very stout C6 three speed automatic transmission. Horsepower was rated at 365 and torque at a stump pulling 500 lbs./ft.! Certainly, needed for this 4,866-pound luxury road yacht. The eye catching brown metallic looks fantastic and is only a few years old. The car also features recent exhaust work. Mileage is showing 657 which is believed to have rolled over once with an estimated 100,657 miles, however there is no documentation to support the miles. Based on the underside condition and how well this one drives, we can't believe that it has rolled over more than once. For more information on this beautiful luxury machine, call 618-271-3000 or stop by our St. Louis showroom.
