Commentaires du vendeur sur 1955' Bentley S1

This Bentley S1 is a beautifully profiled full-width body classic lady on wheels, that manages to look both timeless and contemporary, wherever she is in the world.

A top-tier luxury car, that has evolved along different lines than other cars. The assembly line revolutionized mainstream car making, and made the automobile affordable for millions of people. But, for a car of this genre, a different approach was needed.

Powered by the R-Type's straight-six, but enlarged to 4887cc, the Bentley S1 debuted in 1955 and was the first completely new model for the company since WWII. Bentley had been building cars with “Standard Steel” bodies since the Mark VI — the model that was build immediately following WWII. These had been a big hit for the company, quickly outselling coachbuilt versions by a huge margin. This was obviously the future of luxury cars by the time Bentley was unveiling the S1, but the car was still designed with a separate chassis and body, so a small percentage were able to get custom bodies. It also gained improved brakes and front suspension.

ABOUT THIS CAR

Amazing Condition Throughout
Rust free body, with beautiful paintwork
Wood in excellent condition
Upholstery – leather in tip top order. Same applies for carpet, hood lining etc – beautiful, cosy interior
Smooth to drive – very healthy motor and mechanically sound.
Imported from the USA – three owners in New Zealand – one for 21 years.
Comprehensive service history available dating back to the early 70’s

Bentley was able to sell more than 3,500 units of the S1 over a period of four years - a number that few prewar European luxury carmakers could even dream of. The S1 was the same car as the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, with the only differences being the grille and the badges. So, those buying a standard S1 weren’t just getting a car that looked like every other S1, it also looked like every other Silver Cloud. The Bentleys outsold their Rolls-Royce counterparts, so these are easier to find - and better value - today. For those with the means, taste and patience — the SI is well worth it.
