Commentaires du vendeur sur 1955' Cadillac Series 62
Sandown Park | Esher, SurreyViewing: Wed 9th December from 12pmAuction Thursday, December 10th: From 12:00pm (Noon)Location: Portsmouth Road, Esher, Surrey KT10 9AJ UK
Registration No: NAS 597 Chassis No: the details below MOT: ExemptOwned since 2011 by a member of the Cadillac Owners’ Club of Great BritainNicely presented example, which benefited from a bodywork restoration and full repaint while in the vendor’s ownershipFeatures electric windows, power steering, six-way electric front seats, and air conditioningSupplied with a history file including restoration and repaint photographsHaving been the first car-maker to incorporate tailfins into its styling in 1948, Cadillac pointed the way forward again in 1949 with its adoption of an overhead-valve V8 when rivals Lincoln and Packard were still relying on flatheads, and so established itself as America’s market-leading luxury marque. Between 1952 and 1956, it relied on three model lines, the entry-level Series 62, produced in a range of styles on a short wheelbase; the mid-range, sedan-only Series 60 Special on a longer chassis; and the extra-long flagship Series 75, made for eight-passenger sedans and limousines. The 1955 Fleetwood Series 60 Special was built on the 133in.-wheelbase platform first used in 1954, while the ground-breaking 331ci (5. 4-litre) V8 of 1949 was in its last year, having been progressively tuned until it produced 250bhp. Priced at $4, 728, a total of 18, 300 Series 60 Specials were built for the 1955 model year. As befitted “the ultimate in automobiles,” the model was offered with many options, including a radio, power brakes and electric seats. Without doubt, the most famous owner was Elvis Presley, whose pink ’55 Fleetwood survives as one of the star attractions at Graceland.According to an observation by Motor Trend in 1955, “Cadillac’s engineering philosophy is premised on the statistic that over 90 per cent of their customers want the utmost luxury in a car that is the least possible work to drive.” That philosophy is very much in evidence in this fine 1955 Fleetwood Series 60 Special, which is well-specified with such advanced features as electric windows, power steering, six-way electric seats and air-conditioning; the air-conditioning alone added $620 to the $4, 780 base price. The history of ‘NAS 597’ is known as far back as 1972, when it was exported from Florida to Canada. It spent the period up to 1990 in storage, and was eventually imported into the United Kingdom from Nova Scotia in 2002. It has had just four British keepers, and since 2011 it has been solely in the possession of an enthusiastic member of the Cadillac Owners’ Club of Great Britain.Throughout the present ownership, the Cadillac has only ever been stored indoors and is regretfully being offered for sale due to the loss of its garage. All maintenance during this period has been undertaken by Stuart Smithies, a respected restorer and American car specialist, and has included a bodywork and paintwork renovation. Described by the vendor as “excellent” in all respects, it appears as a very show-worthy car which has not been shown as frequently as he would have liked on account of his work commitments. Considerably rarer than the Series 62s which are so highly sought-after, this wonderful Series 60 is supplied with a V5C and additional paperwork including shipping and customs documents, assorted invoices and MOTs, plus an album of bodywork restoration photographs.
