The Series III fulfils a roll in the E-Type line-up missed by previous generations by adding six inches into the wheelbase thus allowing the elder and taller driver to enjoy the visceral experience first penned by Jaguar's chief designer back with the Series I in the mid-1960s. Indeed, the story of this particular car begins in 1972 when the vendor's brother-in-law, Tony Lincoln, drove past a Jaguar dealership in St. Albans 47-odd years ago. He glanced this E-Type on a plinth overlooking the road and screeched to halt. He reversed, parked and went in, upon enquiring was told that it had just become available as the previous buyer had to withdraw from the purchase.
He bought it that very day and used it for many a happy trip into London from Redborn where he had his own dental technicians' business in Cumberland Place. Some years later he sold the car to another dentist but almost instantly regretted it and bought it back some time later.
Mr. Lincoln married the vendor's sister in the 1980's and, upon their return, very glamorously, the new bride went on to take her driving test in the car and passed first time. Unfortunately following a period of unuse, a divorce ensued in the 1990s and Karen got the car. It then passed to the vendors father and he had the interior restored with a classic's specialist in Preston to the tune of over £15,000.
In more recent years, the car passed to the vendor and has been serviced and maintained by the same historic car garage throughout. The engine was taken out in 2011 and including the replacement of various ball joints, rubbers and other consumables. Mechanically sound and regularly maintained including a full service and MoT test every year, it now sits on wire wheels and benefits from new halogen headlights (although the original wheels and headlamps are included in the sale). This, combined with a full-length Webasto sunshine roof, makes it is a good contender for regular usage and reliable touring especially when you include the enclosed history file, current MoT test certificate, Heritage Certificate and V5C registration document.
