1927 Lancia Lambda 7th Series - formerly the property of Air Commodore Buckle, founder of the Lancia Owners Club
Reg. no. CXW 505
Engine no. 10221 (Tipo 79) - originally fitted to an 8th Series no. 20151
Car no. 15928 (by repute)
Gearbox no. 3666 (Tipo 112)
This Lambda is basically a 7th series built in 1927 and sold as a platform chassis to an outside coachbuilder being completed on the 29th September 1927 (the dashboard supply plaque is from Lancia Alperton (UK), no. 15928). Many of the current features support this, the instrument board and surviving instruments, the four-speed gearbox and the pair of Bosch headlights with original lenses. The engine is a slightly later 8th series of 2,570cc capacity and the rear axle is from an 8th series car also. These were probably secondhand replacements, commonly done in-period to keep the car running at reasonable cost. This Lambda is also fitted with an SU carburettor, a modification often done today to cope with ethanol based petrol, and make the car more usable. The present body probably replaces a rotted-out wood framed saloon with Weyman fabric panelling. We understand that the car is fitted with a recently manufactured aluminium cylinder head purchased in 2011, which was then tuned. Although running when collected for auction, the car has been little used in recent times, and complete re-commissioning is recommended. It is offered with an old buff logbook and a V5.

This and 60 other classic cars will be sold at auction, on March 4th at Allington, Chippenham, Wiltshire SN14 6LJ
