The Renault KZ broke some kind of a record: production began in 1919 and the car remained on sale till 1935, 17 years! Of course the KZ 24 of 1935 no longer had much to do with the 10HP of 1919, but the 2120cc engine retained the same dimensions and the philosophy remained the same; robustness and economy characterizing this semi purpose utility model, with mechanical side-valves that were resistant to most abuse. It’s cover featured the ‘’crocodile’’ concept, which Louis Renault remained faithful to and easy access to the mechanicals and the top speed of 80km/h made this a very popular car. The well-known endurance of this car also propelled Philippe Hayat to participate in one of the original Paris-Dakar Rally of 1979! For the record he came in at 71st overall!
The KZ from the collection of Prince Rainier has a roadster body that has received a high quality restoration. The seatback forward and inner are original and the whole presentation is simple and meets the specifications of the period. The hood is in a good condition, resting on its wooden arches and is easily foldable and the dashboard is complete with the speedometer, clock and ammeter. The car is equipped with a rear rack and the 6 folding Dunlop tyres are new. Being a model from 1926 , it features a round Renault badge – the diamond having appeared the following year, in 1927. This car is simple and robust, good looking, will delight an enthusiast who can take his family and friend for a quiet drive, savouring the feel of a peaceful amble in an automobile from the 1920s.
This car qualifies for the world famous Gordon Bennett Rally run by the IVVCC and all other pre-war car motoring events
