1934 Riley 9 Kestrel
Reg. no. BPE 903
Chassis no. 6024688
Engine no. 53984
Introduced in 1926, Riley's 9hp, 1,087 cc twin-camshaft four was an excellent engine design by any standards. Clothed in stylish bodywork the Coventry manufacturer's pre-war offerings were among the world's finest small-capacity sporting cars. The Kestrel saloon was added to the range in 1933. By the time this particular example was made, the Nine had incorporated a further series of refinements that included a lower final drive ratio, coil/distributor ignition, an all-helical gearbox, a box-section chassis frame, wire wheels and Hartford shock absorbers, while the ENV pre-selector gearbox was an option. Little is known of the history of this car although the logbook states that the present owner purchased it in 1982; finished in red with black wings, this Kestrel has been stood for some time and the prescence of a brand-new crankshaft still in its box, on the rear seat may indicate that the one in the car is broken. The car would benefit with some all-round improvement, the leather interior appears to be original, but the headling is missing. The car is offered here from a genuine Riley enthusiast with a V5c. It should be noted that there is a large selection of Riley spares from this same collection that are being sold on day one.

This and 60 other classic cars will be sold at auction, on March 4th at Allington, Chippenham, Wiltshire SN14 6LJ
