This is a charming Austin 7 RN Saloon that still retains its original registration mark KX 8676 and has only had 5 registered owners over 88 years. Our Austin 7 was first registered on 3rd June 1932 in Buckinghamshire and has the feel of a very well looked after, honest car that still retains its original registration mark. We have photographs in the history dating back to the 1960’s when the Austin was ‘the family car’, and the condition looks remarkably similar inside, suggesting this example has never been left to heavily deteriorate. Back in the 1960’s it was sporting optional wider wheel rims which are still on the car today.

The Austin 7 RN features windup windows with Triplex safety glass, opening front windscreen improving ventilation, and its wide doors give easy access to the rear seats making this is a great little family car. The RN also had improved features such as sloping footwells that gave more legroom and a Lucas suction operated wiper which helps in the rain! The RN really is a very usable Austin 7 and this example is an excellent driver that has been nicely fettled between 2015 and 2018.

Paperwork and invoices on file confirm the Austin has recently been re-wired with a new harness, converted to 12 volts, fitted with discreet flashing indicators, and a battery cut off switch has also been installed. The radiator has been removed and re-cored, the carburettor has been overhauled, the wind up clock rebuilt and a new set of 16" TT Classic Roadmaster tyres fitted. As result of the recent maintenance, the Austin 7 has arrived completely on the button and does not require any major work.

KX 8676 performs well on the road with a lovely, sweet, fit engine. The three-speed gearbox is easy to use and the Austin rides very well indeed. It brakes well, handles correctly and is a delight on the road. The Austin presents well with nice older paintwork, not without the odd mark and blemish but totally in keeping with the very period feel and correct, original looks of the car. The chassis is excellent, the body superb and its older paint finish gives this Austin real character. The upholstery is just delightful and whilst its clearly too good to be original, it does look and feel original having been re-trimmed many decades ago. Overall, a great usable little Austin 7 with lots of character.
