1971 Chevrolet Corvette LS-5 Roadster You are viewing a rare and beautiful 1971 Corvette Convertible, factory original LS-5, 454 c. i. /365 h.p. in its original "War Bonnet Yellow" color, saddle interior, A/C delete, and removable hardtop. The car is numbers matching EXCEPT for the 454 engine. Trim tag # Chevrolet F29; Trim: 417; Paint 989 This Corvette was purchased in 1999 from its second owner, a private individual in Indianapolis IN. In 2006 the current owner decided to make a major investment and totally rebuild the 454 (see below). During the past 5 years the following were also replaced: Clutch pack assembly All brake assemblies Front end bushings Shocks Battery Hoses Since the rebuild in 2006, this car has been driven less than 4500 miles and always garaged. THERE ARE NO LEAKS OR DRIPS. To the owner's knowledge, the car has never been in an accident. The paint does show some age, but is still in good enough condition for local car shows. See photos All of the glass is original and in excellent condition. No chips or cracks The convertible top is believed to be original and in excellent condition except for the rear window which has yellowed. Stock suspension rides on 235 x 60R x 15 radials Stock Muncie M-21 4-speed transmission Rear differential is O.E. posi-traction unit with 3:55 gears. Removable hard top has never been used and is in excellent condition. INTERIOR 1) Original 'saddle' vinyl with brown carpet. See photos. 2) All factory gauges work 3) Aftermarket cassette, AM/FM radio with rear mounted speakers. Original radio is included and works. ENGINE Block casting # 3999289 (1972 -78 Chevelle, Corvette, Monte Carlo, or Truck) 1) Block was shot blasted, line bored, decked, and over bored by .060. Engine displacement is now 468 c.i. 2) Lifter galleys bored and brass bushings installed to true up lifter travel 3) New cam bearings, freeze plugs, and oil galley plugs installed. 4) Crankshaft was magnafluxed (no cracks), rod and main journals were turned .020" each and Clevite 77 Rod and Main bearings were used. 5) Stock Chevy connecting rods were checked for straightness, balanced, and had new ARP rod bolts installed. 6) Speedpro Power Forged Pistons with .215" dome bringing the compression to 10.68:1 7) Cylinder heads were shot blasted and magnafluxed. 8) Manley valves and retainers had three angle valve job performed. 9) Crane Cams 3/8" guide plates used with machined guide boss's for seal & high lift cam. 10) Comp Cams Magnum roller rockers (1.72 ratio) and push rods 8.28" long and 3/8" dia. 11) Crane valve springs 12) Lunati Voodoo Hydraulic cam with .542 gross lift 268 duration 13) Lunati Voodoo Hydraulic lifters 14) Moroso 1 pc steel oil pump drive shaft 15) Melling high volume oil pump 16) Cloyes double roller timing set 17) O.E. harmonic balancer 18) H.E.I. distributor with tach drive 19) MSD wire looms and 8.5mm wires 20) Edelbrock Torker II alum. Intake 21) Holley 650 cfm with vacuum secondary's and electric choke. 22) Sanderson Jet Hot coated headers. After the engine was assembled it was dyno tested and the numbers came in just above 500 h.p. @5500 rpm
