Comentários do vendedor sobre 1961' Fiat 500
Fiat 500D Trasformabile Classic 1961 / LHD Italy / Fully Restored - Perfection @ £18,750
This splendid 2 owner near concours, fully restored example is the highly desirable ‘D’ model (the most sort after & collectable model in the classic Nuova 500 range), it is a very early example & a crossover year between the N & D model, it has the very rare ‘suicide doors’, ‘trasformabile long sunshine roof’, ‘round speedo’ & original matching numbers 110D engine. In fact it has it all & even says Trasformabile in the original log book!
It’s an original LHD Italian example built on 27th September 1961 at the Fiat Mirafiori plant in Turin. First registered in Lecce, which is in Italy’s southern Apulia region. It’s known for its baroque buildings. On the central Piazza Del Duomo, the Cathedral Di Lecce has a double façade & a beautiful bell tower! Nearby are the Sant’Oronzo column, a Roman column topped with a bronze statue of the city’s patron saint & the sunken Roman amphitheatre, truly beautiful!
Indeed this fabulous little car still wears the Lecce original black on white metal early registration plates reading’ LE 32067’ which have been photographed for prosperity as they all sadly needed to be handed back to the Italian ACI on deregistration now.
We have just purchased this splendid little chap directly from its long term custodian Giovanni who purchased it on 10th January 2013 from Lecce & completed its full ‘nut & bolt’ concours restoration in 2016 at his local Italian sports car specialist. It is absolutely fantastic, dare I say near perfect! It’s a testament to the quality & attention to detail on what appears a no expense spared basis. On Completion Giovanni kept the little Fiat garaged at his Milan residence & used it only for short hops around the city to social events as the star attraction & has only covered circa 800 K’Ms running it in. The mileage showing on the odometer is 51,765 believed correct from new, but as I say only 800Km’s since the full nut & bolt restoration.
We had seen this well restored example a few times as he uses it at local Club Fiat 500 events as a show car for the Milan Fiat club branch.
We are told by Giovanni that he spent over 15,000 Euros on the concours restoration (not including the vehicle in the first place) completing it in November 2016. We only got the call from him a month ago, as the rising prices of good 500D’s are now over the sum he had spent on the car. Ironically his best friend also restored an identical early example at the same time & using the same trusted garage, but the sister car was painted in light blue & we have also managed to purchase that splendid example too, but that’s another story!
This is one of the best & most correctly restored 500D we have ever offered & better than my own example. We believe it to be one of the best available worldwide for the asking price & the only way to get a better one, would be to undertake a concours restoration to your own criteria which would cost you vastly in access of the asking price of this vehicle.
The owner was a 500 enthusiast & his knowledge & understanding of the correct parts & original detailing is exceptional. It took us a while to acquire this vehicle for the correct price & we had to by the sister car to make the deal stack up financially, but it was well worth the wait!
We have just completed this stunning vehicles first UK MOT which it naturally passed with no advisories & a glowing report from the tester, along with giving it a full service, just to be sure.
It can now be UK registered in the new owners name so they can be the first UK registered keeper if required, or export with the Italian log book.
This beautiful example is eminently usable as it has its original matching numbers rebuilt Fiat 110D 499cc engine with original rebuilt gearbox, it drives like new & as good as it looks!
Giovanni entrusted this vehicle to his local specialist whom embarked on a full pain staking nut & bolt restoration to near concours standard completing in late 2016 under his watchful eye. Basically everything has been reconditioned or replaced correctly. So in brief: Complete strip to bare metal shell, the front & rear floors were replaced, along with the front nose panel & battery tray with genuine panels & the works have been done to an exceptional standard. The car was fully & expertly rewired. The engine was fully rebuilt and the gear box also. The handbrake cable was changed, clutch replaced, steering box rebuilt, the petrol tank was fully refurbished and flushed. The interior was also fully and expertly retrimmed in red piped cream along with the complete door card set & all interior trim was renewed. All other items of interior trim were refurbished or replaced. All lights were overhauled & the correct aluminium surrounds were machine polished, all rubber items were replaced including the door seals, window & side window seals, new bushes fitted, new springs, shocks & mounts, complete brake system replacement, new starter motor and a new exhaust, in fact every mechanical item was either refurbished or correctly replaced with OEM parts.
The bumpers & brackets were replaced, the original steel wheels were fully shot blasted & refurbished with new period correct Cinturato tyres fitted. The car was fully painted whilst stripped to bare shell (Inside, outside & underneath) at this time in the original period shade of Fiat Verde Chiaro 363 that you see today. This includes the under side & wheel arches, so nothing is covered up & you can view for yourself the quality of the underside, which should last for another 59 years. In fact it looks as good underneath as it does on the top – near Concours standard.
Since being in our possession, we have been meticulous in our further preparation prior to offering this exceptional example to the market by undertaking the following works: Fitted a new grey long sunshine roof, expertly made by our associated trimmer. Fitted new front & rear number plate holders, new front moustache, new early hub caps & associated bolts, white wall spats, a new rear bumper as there was a small ding in the original, Fitted a new Varta battery, premium heat shield pad, full decal set, new green correct HT lead set, 2No. new door straps & beautiful cream sun visors, new correct black full knee role set, new driver’s side lockable handle, 2No. Jack straps, full window washer system, including a period correct washer bag to get the MOT done! Adjusted the steering geometry, supplied a fresh MOT and conducted a multipoint check, replaced the fuel with £25 of new super unleaded, fitted a premium coil & given the cheeky little chap a full service (Oil, plugs, fuel filter, air filter etc) just to be sure! Fitted a 500 Key ring. ACI club sticker, it even has fitted a period luggage rack & period picnic hamper. The car is on the button & ready to go & show or just enjoy…
The vehicle comes with a history file & contains: Original Italian blue log book, Latest Italian log book, ACI certificate (Copy) & original ACI booklet, ACI deregistration form showing the original number plates were handed back & the Euro 13.50 paid. Italian minor invoices, Fresh current UK MOT, Specialist parts invoice from Ricambio International Ltd, Copious photos showing car in Milan outside Giovanni’s house…
The car looks pretty much as new & is no doubt better than when it left the factory in 1961. We believe it to be the best example worldwide for the price asked. It has been correctly restored by people who know the marquee. This is a collector’s opportunity and a superb investment & hence this cheeky chappy can now get UK registered, has a fresh MOT & is being offered for sale for the first time on our shores.

These models are ever increasing in value & are a great investment. Our Fiats come recommended by a leading authority on Fiats & parts specialists – Ricambio International Ltd. I actually have a light blue 1965 500D that makes up part of my own private collection & every body loves it! It always puts a smile on my face, plus you don’t need to worry about the rising petrol prices – Just enjoy!
We also have other vehicles currently in stock & arriving from Europe every month.
As we are a Mercedes Pagoda and R107 specialist we are always happy to part exchange one of these type of cars or indeed any classic car of excellent quality, so please don’t miss this most fastidious example of the iconic Fiat 500D. This vehicle is exceptional value, try & find another as original & tax exempt – Please remember ‘you get what you pay for’. Our cars are hand picked by a marquee expert & we turn down 8 or 9 out of every 10 cars offered. The cars we sell, are we believe the best of their type & are here to be viewed & driven in the UK. This takes the gamble out of buying a car direct from Europe sight unseen. Our stock comes fully de-registered from the country of origin with the ACI fee paid, UK MOT’d, test driven, serviced & detailed. Don’t confuse them with other cars on the internet which have had dubious restorations & are offered with a low asking price. We have had 2 clients bring such cars to us recently bought direct from Italy & both were severe MOT failures with a list of faults ranging from no reverse gear to an undercarriage that requires total replacement. You have been warned! There is always a reason why a car is being sold cheaply! Again ‘you get what you pay for’…
This vehicle is we believe the best in Europe don’t settle and ensure you view this stunning example…
More photos available upon request, PX always considered.

We are always keen to purchase Mercedes Benz Pagoda’s (W113) or late 300SL (R107) models, so please give us a call for a friendly chat if you are considering selling, we would love to hear from you. We also hold many parts in stock for the above models & have our own restoration facilities, where we restore these glorious old Mercedes to Stuttgart factory standards.
