INTRODUCTION: The Starliner gave Ford a suitably aerodynamic style for NASCAR
teams to build highly competitive race cars.
Due to their frequent racetrack applications, very few exist today for
enthusiasts to enjoy. Truly nice ones
are even rarer.SOUTHERN CAR: One of the best things about this car, is that the VIN number (see
decoding information below) verifies that this car was built in Atlanta. “Southern Cars” are well-known for their
solid bodies and undercarriages.1A53Z156953
VIN DECODING: 1 (1961 Model Year), A (Atlanta, GA
Ford Assembly Plant), 53 (2-Door Starliner
Hardtop Body), Z (390-cid 4BBL V8), 156953 (Production Sequence Number)DATA
PLATE DECODING: Body 63A (Starliner 2-Door Hardtop), Color
J (Monte Carlo Red), Trim 35 (White/Red), Date 01F (June 1 Production
Date), Trans 1 (3-Speed Manual), Axle 1 (3.56 to 1)ODOMETER NOTE:
The mileage noted on the odometer as of the listing date (08234) does not
reflect the actual mileage of the car.
Due to the design limitations of 1960s era mechanical odometers, the
exact mileage since new cannot be determined.IMPORTANT
IMAGE NOTES: There are over 100 images, because we want to
show you EVERY aspect of this fine classic that we can think of. THE
FIRST 12 PICTURES will give you a general overview of this
stunning Skyliner. But if you are seriously interested...we suggest that you
look at ALL 100+ images because we want you to see EVERYTHING. Simply
"scroll down" to see the pictures.
The images are arranged in sections for Exterior, Interior, Wheels &
Undercarriage, etc.LOCATION: Cumming, GA...which is approx. 40 miles
north of Atlanta. EXCELLENT INVESTMENT – The Starliner was a recognized trendsetter
of the early 1960s and is well regarded.
Just as in real estate where “location, location, location” determines
value, in classic cars, it is “condition, condition, condition” that drives
value. OPERATIONAL REPORT: This Starliner drives confidently with excellent
acceleration…in fact, those who have driven it invariably remark that “it
really flies”.Note: Because the rebuilt Automatic is a
3-speed 1968 Ford unit, the shift quadrant indications no longer “line up”
perfectly.TESTED & WORKING:
Headlamps (Low & High Beams), Parking Lights, Directionals, Brake
Lights, Back-up Lights, Gauges (except Fuel), Oil Warning Light, Heater/Fan,
and Wipers. TESTED & NON-WORKING:
Horn, Lighters, Seat fore/aft adjustment (stuck), Fuel Gauge, Generator
Warning Light (due to installation of modern-design alternator), Radio (some
static – antenna is also a bit “sticky”) and Clock.Note: Emergency Brake is NOT connected. IMPERFECTIONS: As
a concours judge at International-level Car Shows, I have never seen the
“perfect car”…there is no such thing.
This car is a beauty that you can be proud to drive and show, but please
expect imperfections “here and there”.
Some imperfections will be self-evident via the 100+ images shown. But we have also shown some specific examples
at right in the final image set.PAYMENT TERMS: A $500 non-refundable deposit via
PayPal is required to hold the car for 3 business days, during which time the
balance must be paid in full via bank wire transfer. ABOUT ME: I am an avid Classic Car
enthusiast. After retiring from 30 years of Sales & Marketing in a
Global 100 company, I began buying and selling Classic Cars and Collectibles as
a collector and for friends and clients. This classic belongs to a friend
and fellow member of an International Ford-model club.IMPORTANT DOCUMENT & CONDITION OF SALE REMARKS: Bill of
Sale, Georgia Title and Registration will be provided to the Buyer. NOTE:
The state of Georgia did not begin issuing titles for automobiles until
1962. Therefore, until very recently, it
was impossible to obtain a Georgia-issued title for a 1961 car. Recently however, Georgia has begun offering
“Conditional Titles” to owners of pre-1962 vehicles. It is our understanding that ALL these titles
have the following statement on them:
“Conditional Title – May Not Reflect All Liens Or Other Encumbrances”. However there are NO liens appearing on the
title, and the Notarized (Seller Signature) Bill of Sale will state that there
are no liens or other encumbrances on the car. This Vehicle is sold strictly as-shown and
on a final as-is basis without any warranties expressed or implied. Even the
very best restored classics will require additional maintenance and service -
often without warning. Therefore, please expect to continue - as the new owner and caretaker of this
classic - to perform additional maintenance and repairs. We hope that
you are able to enjoy the Starliner without the need for an immediate repair -
but understand that this indeed could be found necessary. As seasoned
collectors know, every time you start (or attempt to start) a classic vehicle
is a new experience...it could be a wonderful ride, or a new repair to
undertake. That is the nature of the hobby, and this classic should not
be purchased if you are not prepared for this reality. We have presented the car
accurately to the best of our ability, but oversights are possible.
Therefore - before the auction's end - bidders are welcome to
examine the vehicle in person. All sales are final.Because this car is only lightly driven
locally - and is untested for long trips - we recommend that it be transported
to its new locale. We remind you to be sure to review ALL the
images and ALL the captions for this classic on the right because - in
addition to this description - they relate important information too!
