Few American cars have quite the presence of a 1960s Ford Galaxie, and this 1964 two-door example combines that unmistakable character with a carefully considered programme of mechanical and usability upgrades.Finished in clean Corinthian White over a fully retrimmed red and white interior, the car takes visual inspiration from the famous competition Galaxies of the period, while remaining very much a usable and enjoyable road car.At its heart is a rebuilt Ford 390 FE V8, upgraded with a four-barrel carburettor, performance camshaft and followers, Holley performance inlet manifold and fuel pump, together with MSD electronic ignition. Power is delivered through a three-speed automatic transmission.Importantly, considerable attention has been given to making the Galaxie easier and more confidence-inspiring to use on modern roads.Professionally installed electric power-assisted steering transforms low-speed manoeuvrability, while the braking system has been substantially upgraded with Wilwood Classic Series Dynalite four-piston front brakes, a Wilwood proportioning valve, upgraded brake master cylinder and servo.The cooling system has also been comprehensively improved, incorporating an aluminium radiator with electric cooling fan, aluminium water pump and aluminium header tank.Additional mechanical upgrades include an aluminium fuel tank, upgraded exhaust system and headers, rear air shock absorbers and replacement hoses. The electrical system has been professionally rewired, with further improvements including an LED front indicator conversion and a vintage-style fuel pressure gauge.The Galaxie sits on 15-inch American Racing Torq Thrust wheels with new tyres, providing a suitably purposeful stance while remaining sympathetic to the car’s 1960s character.Inside, the cabin has received a complete custom retrim in red and white, including the front and rear seating, matching door panels and new carpets.
