1981 Porsche 924 Carrera GT / Number 317, please!Since its market launch in 1976, and most likely still in the perception of many sports car enthusiasts, the Porsche Type 924 has been what is considered an "underdog" in the world of sports: a team or an athlete who, due to their constitution and their own abilities, are often seen as having no chance, but who enjoy high favor and sympathy from the fan base.Especially with its water-cooled, front-mounted engine sourced from Audi's parts bin, its rather streamlined body, and numerous other parts bearing the "VAG" logo, the Porsche 924 was often met with little more than a smile – particularly from the fast-paced 911 crowd. Nevertheless, in the first five years of production alone, an astonishing 150, 000 units of the 924 model were sold.It was only with the introduction of the Porsche 924 Carrera GT (Type 937) as a homologation model for motorsport in 1981 that this image of an underdog was transformed like Popeye the sailor after two (!) cans of spinach: Due to the official engine tuning to 210 turbo hp, the wide front fenders and rear fender extensions made of fiberglass-reinforced polyurethane, and last but not least, the transaxle design, the Porsche 924 Carrera GT was now on par with a Porsche 911 at that time.This Porsche 924 Carrera GT, number 317, which we are offering here on behalf of the owner, is also much rarer than a Porsche 911: Only 400 production vehicles of the Porsche 924 Carrera GT were built, and according to the Porsche Register, only 21 of these were left-hand drive with air conditioning and in the paint finish "Diamond Silver" metallic.The condition can therefore be described as very well-maintained and tidy: It is largely still the original paint with only a few touch-ups and minor dents. The engine has been completely overhauled, including the installation of a new engine block. The interior shows only minimal signs of wear, and the sport seats feature the original velour upholstery with the characteristic red pinstripes.The 5-digit odometer shows a mileage of approximately 36, 700 kilometers.
