Models like the Impala and the Bel Air pushed Chevrolet to the leading spot in the United States, and because General Motors used the same styling, engines, and equipment, across its entire full-size lineup, models like the Del Ray and the Biscayne also gained more traction.
The Biscayne has never been Chevrolet's number one full-size car, as it couldn't match the figures recorded by the Impala, the Bel Air, or even the Caprice, but it remained an important part of the company's full-size strategy.
This 1969 specimen shows why.
The car is fitted with the right engine, and more importantly, it has a transmission that makes it incredibly rare.
The actual production numbers are unclear, but it's believed that only a few Biscaynes left the factory with the same transmission as this one. Leaving aside the 427ci engine under the hood of the car, which already makes it highly desirable, this specimen is fitted with an M22 transmission.
Because no official figures are available on the Biscayne, as only the Impala, the Bel Air, and the Caprice have been typically documented, we'll have to rely on estimates this time. Fewer than 100 (some people claim around 80) Biscaynes were equipped with an M21 transmission, while the M22 made its way to approximately 10 cars. Some say only 6 Biscaynes got the M22 4-speed transmission.
The car in these photos landed online thanks to Unique Classic Cars, as the garage is now trying to find a new home for it. It's already in good shape, with the paint looking good, albeit I recommend that buyers inspect it in person before making an offer. The car sports dual exhaust, a heavy-duty radiator, a stereo system, and aftermarket gauges installed under the dash.
The 427ci engine under the hood starts, runs, and drives, and this isn't a surprise, considering how well the car looks. I wish we knew more about the previous work conducted on this car, but it sells with several documents, including the broadcast sheet and the invoice, so maybe you can obtain more info from the sellers.
The car is being sold at auction on eBay, and 17 people have already joined the digital fight. The top offer is now $7,000, but a reserve has also been configured, unsurprisingly still in place. The auction will likely receive more bids in the next few hours, especially as it's approaching the final hours, with 52 people currently watching the listing.
The vehicle is located in Mankato, Minnesota, and shouldn't need transportation to leave on a short journey.
