Electric Porsche 911 Cabrio Restomod Costs The Same As 2 New 911s

Voitures Extravert, the Dutch 911 restomodding specialist, has just announced a new vehicle in its lineup: the quintessenza TE Cabrio. Joining its ever-growing lineup of '60s and '70s-inspired electric Porsche 911 restomods, the TE Cabrio now becomes the new option for those wanting to enjoy the fresh air in classic style, all while enjoying smooth instantaneous power delivery. Porsche itself may never build an electric 911, but that won't stop others from filling in the gap.

Voitures Extravert, which has been around since 2016, "wants classic cars back on the road and bringing drivers joy 365 days a year." All vehicles are designed, produced, and assembled in the Netherlands and are aimed at being true to their roots. So how much power is on offer? The TE Cabrio is powered by a single permanent magnet synchronous e-engine (water-cooled, just to upset the purists), generating 255 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Directed through the rear axle, it boasts a 0-60 mph time of quicker than six seconds.

The driving range is claimed at a WLTP-estimated 250 miles from a 59 kWh battery pack that is more than enough for a spirited ride or even a short weekend getaway and can be topped up promptly at a 60kW fast-charging station.

In Voitures Extravert's classification, the SE models are based on '60s 911s, and the TE models are based on '80s models. The Cabrio is only available as a TE model, as the first 911 Cabrio ever only debuted late in 1982 as a 1983 model.

Built on the bones of these cars, Voitures Extravert restores them immaculately. Once a donor vehicle is found, it is then painstakingly gone through to make sure it is as new and period correct as possible before the new powertrain is put in place.

"Increasingly, we receive inquiries from customers who want to go beyond the Targa," says Martijn van Dijk, commercial director of Voitures Extravert. "And as the weather trends towards even more sunshine and dry conditions, the Cabrio will be the daily choice of many of our customers."

If this whole thing sounds right up your alley, the process to find the donor vehicle all the way until delivery will take about a year and is going to cost you a lot. The 911 quintessenza TE Cabrio costs an estimated $379,000 - a fee that includes the sourcing of the donor car and everything thereafter. However, additional customization options will drive this up further.

Currently, the most expensive Porsche 911 is the $272,300 911 Sport Classic, which pales in comparison. For the price of one TE Cabrio, you can buy two 911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolets and still have money left over. Thankfully, each car comes with a five-year/62,500-mile warranty and the vehicle health is monitored remotely with over-the-air updates to optimize the powertrain.
