Most Sinister Restomod Right Now Is a Matte Black Mercedes-Benz Ponton With an AMG Engine

It is probably only a matter of time until it shows up in a Hollywood production. Probably, the part of a vintage Batmobile would fit it like a glove.

Dark and dangerous and everything in between. If you find this spine-chilling, blood-curdling, hair-raising, blame Xtreem Motors in South London for the fright. The 1961 Mercedes-Benz Ponton is now built around a W204 C 63 AMG chassis.

What powers this ghostlike creature is the naturally aspirated M156 6.2-liter AMG V8 engine. The power unit churns out 450 horsepower. The sound of that engine under the elongated hood of the car confirms that it really means business. That soundtrack, coming out of a quad-pipe exhaust system, might turn a head or two or all of them in the street.

Almost every panel of the classic Benz has been replaced, cut, carved out, and welded into place for the perfect fit. And everything is painted in Raptor Paint, similar to the blackest black, the Vantablack. The Raptor Paint also covers every chrome element that used to display the silver look: the three-pointed star logo on the hood, the bumpers, and radiator grille.

The AMG-powered Ponton rides on multi-spoke, 21-inch wheels with a gloss black finish that perfectly sit in the newly cut wheel arches. Those wheels spin like crazy when the driver does burnouts and sport red brake calipers, matching the AMG lettering in the grille and the trailer hitch.

The round headlights keep the personality of the original Ponton but sport futuristic technology, going from complete black matte when they are turned off to bright light when they are turned on.

But the interior of the build is a whole different story. The team came up with a modern AMG interior that contrasts the somewhat classy exterior. There are red leather seats in there, AMG three-point harnesses, and an AMG steering wheel in leather with contrasting red stitching, while the door cards are exposed metal.

The silver pipes next to the rear seats might trick you into believing there is a roll cage on board. But it couldn't be further from the truth. They are actually there just to cover the difference in width between the body of the Ponton and the one of the W204 C 63 AMG, which donated the seats. Therefore, it is anything but classic.

Asked about the price of this ferocious build, the Xtreem Motors team just says "A lot!" We have no idea how many zeroes are in "a lot."

It still needs a few more tweaks to become road-legal. For the moment, it is just one of the most sinister restomods on the planet.
