This Wisconsin Shop Will Swap a Hellcat V8 Into Your Plymouth Prowler

There have been a few impressive engine swaps for the car over the years, but a Wisconsin shop is taking things to the next level with a Hellcat engine swap package that also includes a manual gearbox.

Michel’s Auto Design is offering a “Sinister” package for the Plymouth Prowler that adds a 707-horsepower Hellcat V8 and a Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission. The setup also includes a custom-built independent rear suspension system, a custom exhaust, a reworked hood, and removal of the front bumper.

That will be a significant improvement over the car’s standard 3.5-liter V6, which produced up to 253 horsepower in later versions. It was paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, but it at least had a 50-50 weight distribution and a relatively light weight. The step up to a V8 will almost certainly completely transform the Plymouth Prowler, and the shop’s video footage proves that the custom exhaust system sounds great.

One of the original reasons given for the Plymouth Prowler’s V6 was that a V8 wouldn’t fit, but that argument’s now out the window. Impressively, Michel’s retained the car’s factory air conditioning, and the swap doesn’t drastically change the car’s look or dimensions, other than the front bumper delete.

We don’t know the price of the conversion, but it’s likely far from cheap. While there doesn’t appear to be a ton of custom fabrication work involved, the engine itself isn’t particularly affordable, and you’re paying for professionals to do the work. That said, used Plymouth Prowler values are surprisingly friendly because of its “all-show, no-go” attitude.
