1966 was the year of big-block engines, as Chevrolet introduced the new 427ci units for a boost of power under the hood of the Corvette.

The GM brand eventually produced 27,720 cars, and the convertible accounted for 17,762 units. The coupe was ordered by 9,958 customers.

The base Corvette was fitted with a 327ci engine rated at 300 horsepower, but customers could also equip their cars with a more powerful version of the same engine. The compression ratio was upgraded to 11.0:1, and thanks to a Holley four-barrel carburetor, the L79 produced 350 horsepower.

The 427ci unit could be had as L30 and L72. The L30 produced 390 horsepower, while the L72 was the king of the Corvette castle this year with 425 horsepower.

The Corvette coupe in these photos is allegedly a rare specimen, with Classic Cars of Lake Ozark, the dealer looking for a new owner for the car, explaining that it's 1 of only 492 units produced in 1966. The car is fitted with a 327ci unit rated at 350 horsepower and is also fitted from the factory with air conditioning.

It's not an all-original Corvette, but the good news is that it still sports the original color – Rally Red, paint code 974. It sports a standard black interior.

The seller explains that the car is very clean, and the frame suffers from no rust problems. The air conditioning still blows cold, and this is good news for someone who wants to drive this car regularly.

As you can imagine, this Corvette can easily be a collectible, especially thanks to these low production numbers. The engine starts, runs, and drives properly, so whoever buys this car can enjoy it as is. It won't need major investments to become a museum piece, but desirable options like air conditioning make it a desirable specimen.

Before you rush to the comment section to tell me it's just a Corvette, especially because it doesn't have a big block under the hood, it's important to remember that everything on this car works except for the clock.

The selling expectations are quite ambitious, and this is the point where some people will walk away. The garage wants $85,900 for this Corvette, and I'm sure few people would be willing to pay that much on a 1966 Corvette, even if it's a rare specimen. The dealer also enabled the Make Offer option on eBay, so if you want the car but have another deal in mind, just contact the dealer to discuss all the details.

The car is parked in Lake Ozark, Missouri, and you are strongly advised to go see it in person or order a professional verification before making an offer. You'll need transportation to take it home, given its fabulous shape.
