Pontiac's sales went through the roof in 1973, but the GTO was already feeling sick. While the GM brand shipped over 919,000 cars, the GTO fell to 4,816 units, with the Sport Coupe accounting for 4,312 units.

The coupe was rarer at 494 units, with some options making the GTO even rarer. For example, it's estimated that only 25 GTO 2-doors rolled off the assembly lines with a 455 four-barrel engine paired with an automatic transmission.

The GTO in these features is also a rare specimen, as only 282 units were produced in this configuration.

Napoli Classics, the garage that brought this GTO online for the difficult mission of finding a new owner, reveals that the black goat has been stored and maintained in South Florida, spending the last 26 years with the same owner.

However, the main selling point is its condition. A frame-off restoration brought the car to the shape you see today, with everything meticulously refreshed. The original engine is still in the car, but it received important work during the restoration. The whole process took 26 years, so if you believe that restoring a car is easy, you'd better think again.

Discussing this GTO's condition doesn't make much sense, considering it's flawless, but it's worth mentioning that the car was born with several important options, including a Cordova top, power steering, tinted glass, power disc brakes, and air conditioning. The serial number breakdown confirms it's a D32 LeMans Sport Coupe with the GTO package, and if the numbers posted online are correct, fewer than 300 units rolled off the assembly lines in 1973.

The garage didn't share many specifics about what happens under the hood, but it's safe to assume that everything is in tip-top shape. This means you can fly in and drive home, as this GTO looks ready for the road. The odometer indicates 84,000 miles, but the mileage is exempt.

The selling price could make some people walk away despite being a rare GTO. The garage will let it go for $46,000, and it also offers financing options.

A GTO is typically a desirable classic car, but the 1973 release was already in its final days, and few people were willing to pay big bucks to take such a specimen home. Additionally, while the restoration job made this GTO shine like a diamond and run like a new car, some collectors might decide to look elsewhere, specifically because of the restoration process. An all-original GTO is more compelling, but fingers crossed for this sport coupe to find a new home and be parked in someone's collection.

The dealership is located in Milford, Connecticut, and you must contact its staff to arrange an in-person inspection and see the GTO live.
