The DB5 is a car that needs very little introduction and is probably the most famous and recognised car world-wide.
Making its debut in 1963, replacing the DB4 and powered by the enlarged straight-six 4 litre engine adopted from the DB4 Vantage. Significant enhancements over its predecessor included the introduction of a full synchromesh ZF 5 speed gearbox, adoption of the Girling disc brakes used on the DB4GT, along with 15” wheels. Many other improvements were incorporated including electric windows and twin hydraulic brake servos.
Delivered new to Brooklands of Bond Street in September 1964 and registered on plate CT1 to its first owner on 20th October.
It is understood that the Aston was then sold to its second owner within its first year and subsequently shipped to their Cape Town residence where it was kept for a further 25 years before being bought back to the UK in 1990. The owner having retired from driving, being in her early 90’s.
We acquired the car in 2007 from its former UK owner who had kept the car in fine fettle. In 2008, we conducted a sympathetic recommission, testimony to the car being so well cared for and largely used in dry conditions over the course of its life.
The California Sage paintwork is sublime, complimented by Suede Connolly leather which replaced the original black trim during the recommissioning. In our eyes it’s a more pleasing combination and the pictures fully support this.
It retains its original 4 litre engine in rude health, quite rare to see with many having been modified to Vantage specification. Another point to make, being the absence of wing or door mirrors, sometimes fitted and in our view cluttering the lines of one of the most beautiful cars made.
We will happily discuss further details with any interested parties
