Seller's comments about 1928' Austin 7 Fabric Saloon
A true ‘barn find’! #894 is a very rare surviving Fabric Saloon, with only a handful of chassis in the 800s registered. Extracted from storage after 30 or more years, this wonderfully preserved Austin 7 Fabric Saloon has been in the same ownership for over 45 years and still in contact with the previous owner who bought it in 1955! Mechanically overhauled, but not yet cleaned externally, to preserve the patina. A great opportunity to purchase a vehicle that would benefit from some care and attention by the next owner, hence why it has been left in its ‘as found’ condition. Finished in ruby over black and trimmed in dark ruby. The roof has the correct rexine covering and the original 'top hat' visor. Under the bonnet is a 747cc inline-four, coupled to a three-speed manual transmission. The front brakes have been upgraded and the suspension modified to improve handling. The following work has recently been completed: carburettor removed and cleaned (needs a rebuild kit) ; new plugs; fuel lines cleaned; new battery fitted; fuel tank removed, cleaned and re-fitted. The first Austin Seven appeared in 1922, production getting properly under way in 1923. It was built around a very simple triangular A-frame, the radiator being at the apex. Suspension was provided by single transverse semi-elliptic springs at the front, the rear axles being supported by quarter-elliptic springs protruding from the rear end of the chassis members.
