Rally Preparation Services is thrilled to be able to offer this extraordinary vehicle for sale on behalf of one of our clients.
The Dodge WC Series vehicles were produced during WW2. Various body styles were adopted on to a truck chassis with the same running gear across all variants to give the versatility needed. These bodies included – Cargo trucks, Carryalls, Command Vehicles, Ambulances and Field Workshops to name a few. Throughout the war years, Dodge was the U. S. Army’s sole producer of trucks. This WC-53 Dodge Carryall originally spent time in Tunisia, North Africa, during 1943.
The Carryall we are offering for sale has been built into a truly amazing version of its previous self, having had a full restoration and built into its current format by Legacy Classic Trucks. The specification for this car was signed off by our client to act as a support vehicle for him on the Grand Prix of South America.
The original 6 Cylinder Flat Head engine has been replaced for a low stressed but incredibly efficient Cummins 4BT 4 Cylinder low pressured turbocharged unit producing approximately 130 BHP and an amazing 380 lbs ft of torque from as low as 1, 500 rpm on any quality diesel from its 32 Gallon tank, giving a range of almost 600 miles.
“Keeping it simple”, the Dodge Carryall has been constructed to keep maintenance easy and reliability high for especially when in remote areas. Items such as the easily visible highly mounted pre-filter air filter visible from the driver’s seat to ensure the crew can always manage the vehicle. This coupled with the transmission having breathers fitted to both the axles, the gearbox, and the transfer box all allow for wading through the deepest water.
The ride height is in-line with its original, now standing on its fresh 17” road wheels. The tyres are the Toyo RT type that bolt directly to the wheel rims to allow super low-pressure use. The rear axle has a limited slip differential, and the vehicle runs as part-time 4wd but through a simple process can be manually switched over to full 4wd.
For the suspension, the road springs are all multi leaf springs for simplicity, robustness and carrying capacity. Shock absorbers are King off-road units.
The crew are in a nice place too – with super comfortable seats from a modern Chevrolet, a full synchromesh gearbox, air-conditioning, power steering and powerful brakes. The driving experience is far easier than first expected, especially when you are in the presence of the vehicle for the first time.
The build does not stop there. To carry out the duties it was also designed for as a support vehicle, the split rear hatch is hand built and super strong to act as a work bench. There is a mounting on the front bumper to enable a vice to be fitted quickly and easily but importantly there’s a built-in welder inverter that can run all the power tools needed along with a compressor to blow up tyres or run air tools!
