Another goes that one buyer slept overnight in his car, right there in the showroom, while his bank cleared his cheque.
Demand was such that sales outstripped production by 6000 vehicles by the end of the first day of sales. Its success was assured to the extent that it took Ford less than two years to crank out a million Mustangs.
