Seller's comments about 1961' Jaguar E-Type

E-Type: A Remarkable Journey of an Immaculate UK Roadster
Introduction - The E-Type, an iconic sports car from Jaguar, has captivated enthusiasts with its timeless design and exhilarating performance since its introduction in the 1960s. Each E-Type has a unique story to tell, and Chassis 850324 is no exception. This particular Open Two Seater (OTS) roadster, finished in the striking combination of Old English White with a Red interior, has undergone a remarkable journey. From its delivery to Byatts of Fenton, a Jaguar main dealer in Stoke on Trent, to its recent sympathetic restoration, this E-Type has seen the hands of passionate owners and witnessed significant moments in history.
A Heroic Beginning - Chassis 850324 was first owned by Sam Rafferty, a wartime hero who served in the Parachute Regiment. In 1949, Rafferty established Rafferty Lightning Protection Limited, a company that still exists today. Known for his love of cars, he courted his future wife with this very E-Type. During those early years, E-Types were incredibly sought after, with limited availability. Only the well-connected or notable racing drivers had a chance of owning one, making Rafferty's acquisition all the more impressive.
Passing Through Generations - As Rafferty's family grew, the E-Type found its way into the hands of its second owner, James Trotter, who resided in Surrey. Trotter cherished the car, parting ways with it on the 26th of July 1973. The E-Type then found a new owner in Graham Munt, a local resident of Purely. However, Munt's ownership was relatively short-lived, as he sold the car just five months later in November 1973.
The Journey Continues - Brian Palmer of Norfolk became the next custodian of Chassis 850324 in 1975. After a year of ownership, he passed the torch to his neighbor, John Whitting. Whitting's love for the E-Type endured for decades until his passing in 2010. In his will, he bequeathed the car to the current owner, who now proudly carries the responsibility of preserving its rich history.
A Meticulous Restoration - Over the years, the E-Type's mileage slowly increased, as evidenced by a collection of MOT certificates from 1976 onwards. Recognizing the need for a comprehensive restoration, the current owner decided to undertake a meticulous "nut and bolt" rebuild in 2017. Every detail was carefully considered, resulting in a stunning finished product that is immaculate in every aspect. The restoration encompassed not only the car's appearance but also a full mechanical rebuild, ensuring that the E-Type's performance matches its remarkable aesthetics.
A Rare Gem, Chassis 850324 proudly retains its original chassis plate and is accompanied by a heritage certificate, confirming its status as a full matching numbers car. This rare combination of Old English White exterior and a Red interior adds to its allure, making it a standout example of an original UK E-Type. With its recent sympathetic restoration, this car now stands as a testament to the passion and dedication of its owners throughout its eventful journey.
Chassis 850324, an E-Type roadster with a remarkable history, has persevered through the years and emerged from a comprehensive restoration in immaculate condition. From its delivery to Byatts of Fenton to its current owner, this E-Type has been a witness to personal stories, automotive heritage, and moments in time. As it continues to captivate enthusiasts with its stunning presence, Chassis 850324 reminds us of the enduring legacy of the iconic Jaguar E-Type.
