DESCRIPTION:
Most pub enthusiasts will always start with “nice interceptor”, little do they know! This thing is a real treat, it was as special when it was new as it is today, now that’s rare in itself. The Jensen FF was many things iconic being one of them. They were also one of if not the fastest accelerating production car in the world at the time, thanks to their other world first, the Ferguson Formula 4-wheel drive system. These were the first ever production 4-wheel drive cars. The FF also sported the brand new Dunlop Maxaret ABS system, giving the car traction control too. Of which only a paltry 320 were made worldwide, of those, this is number 306.
Chassis 306 is believed to be the crossover between the mk 2 and 3. So it has a mixture of parts and is all the better for it! It has the mk3’s electronic ignition and seats, but thankfully the less smog regulated mk2 engine, so there is more power on tap. So, this car truly is the best of both worlds.
It has been with its current custodians for the last 40k miles and 34 years, since 1988! It only had two owners before them, both of which are known and documented within the history file. The car has an enormous history file, befitting of a true petrolhead family, with their own workshop! They have a great array of cars and this one is no different. It was restored mainly in 1995, having a change of colour from factory silver to the much nicer anthracite green we see it in today. Much mechanical work was undertaken too, engine rebuilds, chassis rails, interior and it has been cared for since, which shows in just how well the car presents all these years on.
To drive the car is quite an experience. Like the CV-8 that preceded it, the FF is a car way ahead of its years. So little body roll, for any car of the age, let alone one with this mass and comfort. It is surefooted, creates a wonderful noise and wafts along with ease. The undisputed daddy of 1970’s grand tourers.
Just imagine owning this from new, it would be like a spaceship in comparison to most of the other cars on the roads back then, it still amazes even today, so what it must have felt like then would have been mid blowing – jaws on the floor. The 4-wheel drive system would also mean that once you’d crossed Europe, you could get to your ski resort without an issue too. It even looks stunning from every angle too; you just can’t dislike it!
TECHNICAL SPEC:
The car has been looked after its entire life, which is shown in the history file, which has everything the enthusiastic owner would want to see; owners books, wiring diagrams, workshop manuals, the original build sheet from Jensen, the sale document from 1988, trophies from concours events won after the restoration, this car has it all! You couldn’t really ask for more.
In 1995 the car was re-sprayed by Lord Brockets garage (Prestige) ((There is quite the story to this if you look it up)) in anthracite green from its factory hue of silver, I think the green really does the car justice. The car had all of the rust removed too at this point, with new chassis rails at the same time. Belt and braces as you’d expect!
The engine was also taken to SD Racing who build race engines and was rebuilt for posterity’s sake. It didn’t need it, but since the client loved the car and was giving it TLC, why not! It is still on the button to this day.
The gearbox was also serviced, new suspension bushes and many other items changed at the time, so it was like a new car again.
The car comes with its original Rostyle wheels included, they will need a refurb, but at least they are available for those who want the originality.
The interior is almost as new, testament to its diligent ownership and build quality together.
Due to the time elapsed the car is no longer concours, however we feel that with a car that still presents so well, has had such a high quality of work, ownership and history, all of which are verifiable, this car is an almost unrepeatable opportunity. A wonderful car all round and one that deserves a loving new owner that will cherish it again for the next 30 years. We have reduced the asking price of this car to allow a new custodian room to have a respray / neaten up the paintwork where desired, making this car even better value if you just intend on driving and enjoying it!
