Refurbished in-house at John Brown 4×4 HQ.We are delighted to present for sale this early Series 2 Land Rover, which was registered in the first 12 months of Series 2 production (December 1958). This vehicle was refurbished to order for a client who was unable to complete for personal reasons. To those of you who follow what happens at HQ regularly, you will know we have been busy fulfilling customer orders of late and have not had the opportunity to create as many vehicles for the stock list as we would like – so this vehicle is an opportunity to buy an in-house refurbishment vehicle “off the shelf”.Because of this, the specification is much higher than one would normally see from a standard vehicle. To start with, all the galvanising has been replaced…. the kit normally only comes with the body capping set and is missing the windscreen and fuel surround – these items cannot be bought and we supply them in house only, as a reasonably expensive cost option. The result of this is that all the steel work is now presented with fresh galvanising, including the front bumper – so this vehicle really does look fresh, particularly when you roll up the sides of the brand new canvas to reveal the fresh galvanised strips and unpainted steel rivets offset against the backdrop of the professional paint finish. There is simply too much to list in terms of exterior “spec” – from the towbar and electrics to the rear mud flaps, rear grab handles, new bumper, new number plates etc etc.The inside is a similar affair – with three new standard front seats, with rear benches to match. This means seating for seven including the driver, and the added cost of the seat belt bar means that the front passenger and driver benefit from inertia reel seat belts… no more faffing with non-adjusting lap belts. There is deluxe matting to the footwells, and a rear load mat to protect the rear floor. The canvas having side windows in the rear means a light and airy interior for those in the front and back, which is also welcome.Out on the road, this Series 2 can hang with the best of them – with a new Weber Carburettor for extra power over standard, free wheeling hubs for increased fuel economy and reduced axle and propshaft wear, and larger 750×16 tyres for increased gearing. The culmination of all those items together means a relaxed drive at more modern road speeds, and thanks to a recent brake service, it stops well too. It is a joy and with those period good looks, we enjoyed many waves and smiles on our test route despite the current gloomy weather. A heater with demist is fitted to prevent icing up on colder days, which is most welcome. In summary then, if you are looking for a Series 2 which has been refurbished to a high standard with a plethora of desirable extras, which can also carry the whole family, then this must be worth considering. With the added benefit of Tax and MOT exemption, a long current independent MOT for peace of mind and Classic Insurance, it is ready to enjoy throughout the summer. If you were to order this vehicle from HQ today, there would be a 2 month wait to commence – meaning you’d miss the best of the weather. In this very popular colour and spec – we’d advise you to be quick!Priced at £23, 995
