Galvanised Bonnet Catches. 750 Tyres. Bonnet Mounted Spare. Recent Canvas. Recent Bumper. Recent Seats. Glass Lensed Lights. Rear Mudflaps. Wing Top Mounted Mirrors. Original Galvanised Cappings. Weber Carburettor. New Wiper Motors. We are delighted to present for sale this high specification Land Rover® Series 2a, which is finished in the popular Mid Grey colour scheme, with sand canvas and Limestone Wheels. Subjected to a comprehensive rebuild in times past, with both a galvanised chassis and a galvanised bulkhead (uncommon to see) – this is a real opportunity to purchase a future family heirloom which will outlive all of us.. even the front panel between the lights has been galvanised! This means that all the mild steel components, which would normally be the subject of worry in regards to future corrosion, have been “dealt with”. Externally, as the photos show, this Series 2a has lots of pleasing period features – the mid grey colour scheme is rare to see and proves to be very popular. The eagle eyed purchaser will notice some hallmarks to an original, ex-military past – the galvanised bonnet catches, the rear plug point for running radio gear, the glass lenses for the indicators, side lights and brake lights, etc etc. This Series was cast off after 10 years in 1975, which is the reason for the “P” reg plate… the V5 shows manufacture in 1965. The 750 tyres, recent bumper, recent canvas and bonnet mounted spare complete the look… we will let the photos do the talking here and as I am sure you can see, this is a really good looking Land Rover® throughout. On the inside, there are three standard front seats along with deluxe matting to the footwells. It is good to see a heater fitted, which will prove handy in the colder weather we are currently enjoying. Twin modern wiper motors are fitted – which is a good thing – as they actually clear water from the screen now rather than moving it around slowly! There are a host of period features too – namely the “banjo” steering wheel with centre push button horn and the original column mounted indicator stalk too. The rear is unfitted with the exception of a load mat, but could house bench seats on request for £595 to give seating for seven people including the driver. Out on the road is where this Series really shines through, though – when vehicles have been rebuilt you can often feel this behind the wheel – and this Series 2a is no exception. The steering is light and the brakes are sharp – with the weber carburettor giving more power over standard and 750 tyres to extend the gearing for a more relaxed cruise. Coupling in the classic look and the raspy petrol engine – you can imagine the looks we enjoyed on our test route through the market square…. it delivers a really pleasing period drive enhanced by the updates mentioned. In summary then, if you are looking for a Series Land Rover® which will stand the test of time thanks to a comprehensive rebuild, then this could be for you. This is an ideal vehicle for a family looking to hand this vehicle down as an heirloom over time… and with all the added bonus’ of MOT & Tax Exemption alongside classic insurance, then it should prove to be a loyal companion which is cost-effective and as hassle free to own as a classic car can be.
