Seller's comments about 1941' Lincoln Continental

1941 Lincoln-Zephyr Four Door Sedan – rare car with fascinating history.A mere 184 Four Door Sedans were supplied in right hand drive in 1941 of which there are just two known survivors, one in Japan and the car you see here. The Zephyr was supplied new to Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). With no fresh supplies of cars from Britain, the executives of the big copper mining companies looked to the U. S. for suitable cars and a number of Lincoln-Zephyr V12s were exported there. This particular Zephyr was discovered on a rubbish dump in 1973 by a young British electronics engineer named Ted O’Brien who worked for one of the copper mining companies. What followed was a fascinating story of restoration and a 6, 000 mile journey back to the UK commenced in October, 1976 across war-torn Africa. Despite the appalling roads, of which some were mined, the Zephyr performed admirably with the only faults being a non-charging dynamo and a broken oil filter pipe. The incredible story was a testament to the quality of the Lincoln and was written up for the Lincoln-Zephyr Owners Club magazine. A copy of the story is in the car’s history folder. In middle of 1977 the O’Briens reached their native Yorkshire and twenty years later the Zephyr was treated to a second restoration but rather than return the car to showroom condition O’Brien retained all of the items he and his colleagues at the mining company made to get the car back on the road.Sadly O’Brien later went to live in Hong Kong and parted company with the Zephyr. At some stage since the Zephyr has had a colour change from black back to the original green. The car presents well overall with just some minor blemishes on the paintwork while the interior remains in excellent condition. The car benefits from an additional 12 volt battery and an electric fuel pump to enable easy starting. Once running the electric pump can be switched off and the original mechanical pump takes over.We have had the distributor checked over and re-timed and have also fitted a new brake master cylinder.A quantity of useful spares accompany the car including a new carburettor and head gaskets. This is a rare chance to acquire such an unusual car with such a fascinating story. We will happily accept an interesting vehicle in part exchange.A video of the car can be viewed on the St Andrews Autos YouTube channel. For more information and to arrange a viewing please call James on the number provided or contact us via the website.Thank you for reading.
