The Mercedes-Benz 220SE W111 was presented in 1959 in Frankfurt and was the successor to the popularly called Ponton. The Skrzydlak, as the W111 model is colloquially called, had the same engines as the popular Ponton, 6-cylinder with a capacity of 2.2 liters. The W111 model was not a completely new design, it inherited many elements from its older brother, i.e. suspension, engine, but there was also room for several innovative solutions, such as crumple zones.
