EXTERIOR
With only 2, 591 ever built – all in RHD and all GT models – the MGB V8 is a rare beast indeed. Having previously been treated to a comprehensive bare metal restoration, this desirable chrome bumper example presents to an exceptional standard throughout. Unlike many older restos that start to show their age after a few years this one still appears factory-fresh, the car having been carefully stored and only occasionally driven since the work was completed. Accordingly, the Harvest Gold paintwork maintains a beautiful deep shine with barely an imperfection in sight. Looking closer, the panel gaps are spot-on and the chrome is immaculate all round. The underside is also amazingly fresh with absolutely no corrosion, underseal, or signs of previous poor repair.
INTERIOR
The interior space is in excellent condition throughout. The seats are still supportive with little evidence of use, even to commonly worn areas such as the driver’s bolster, and the door cards are without any scratches or scuffs. The dashboard appears like new, and the switchgear/ instruments are also in fine fettle. In the footwells the carpets are spotless and even the boot area is pristine.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Lift the bonnet and you’re treated to an impeccably clean engine bay, perfectly in line with the outstanding condition of the rest of the car. The engine and chassis numbers are matching as confirmed by the accompanying heritage certificate. At the turn of the key, the 3. 5-litre V8 fires into life and idle smoothly up to temperature. In 2022 the carbs were sent to Ed Biddle for disk-swap/ deep clean/ adjuster overhaul, then refitted, tuned, and tested. An oil and filter service was also carried out with all points greased. On test the gearbox feels smooth and precise to operate, with the overdrive option equipped from factory.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
Filling the arches are the correct cast alloy wheels, all in superb condition. They are shod in matching Yokohama tyres, with plenty of tread depth remaining. The brakes have all been checked and remain in fine operational condition.
HISTORY FILE
This stunning MGB GT V8 was built in October 1973 and sold through the supplying dealer, Hattons Ltd. of Lancashire. It was exported to Australia some years ago, where the current owner purchased it from Lorbek Luxury Cars, Melbourne, in 2017. He then imported it back to the UK in 2018 and has enjoyed it ever since. There have been many custom V8 MGBs over the years but only 2, 591 original factory-built cars were ever produced, with chrome bumper models such as this one being the most sought-after variant.
Within the accompanying History File you will find the UK registration document, heritage certificate, spare key, as well as various invoices and MOT certificates since importation in 2018.
