Seller's comments about 1977' Opel Rekord
Opel Rekord D 1.9 (petrol) from 1977 for sale.
The car was imported in 2014 from Hungary, where it had been in one family since new.
Currently, the odometer shows 40,200 km (the odometer does not show hundreds of thousands). When I bought it in 2015, it had 29,850 km on it.
The first owner's notes show that in 1996 the odometer showed 26,800 km, and in 2000 29,640 km.
In 2000, the car was withdrawn from traffic.
I bought the car with original, factory Semperit tires, just like the spare wheel. The tires show minimal wear.
In 2015, after buying the car, I bought new tires, but of course I kept the original ones.
The car is completely original, has no visible signs of corrosion (!)
and is in very good mechanical condition.
I recently drove it in Masuria and it covered 800 km without any problems.
The car has 99% original factory paint (!), only the nose of the radiator grille was painted. The paint thickness gauge shows values close to 100 microns.
All factory windows.
The engine is the proven and dynamic Opel CIH 1.9 SH.
It has 90 HP and pushrods with hydraulic valve clearance adjustment.
The first owner ordered additional equipment for the Rekord: a sunroof, metallic paint, and better fabric upholstery.
The car is factory equipped with, among others: with inertia seat belts, additional halogen lights at the front and a radio antenna integrated in the windshield.
Additionally, after receiving the car, he performed professional anti-corrosion protection of the chassis.
The car is registered as a historic car.
No need for annual technical inspections and continuity of third party liability insurance.
Private sale.
Considering that the car is 46 years old, its condition is surprising.
It's just beautiful.
In the video you can see this car as it was still in Hungary.
Among the comments under the video, I found one very accurate:
"A masterpiece of European automotive design. Created under the supervision of an American (Charles M. Jordan) who was fascinated by Italian car design and created two of the most beautiful German cars of the 1970s with the Manta A and the Rekord D. Because it is an Opel, it will never gain recognition, for it deserves. With the Rekord D, Opel has achieved the ideal of good design: a clean and clear form, reduced and simple, but still the opposite of boring. No unnecessary details, timelessly elegant, calm, yet striking and unique. Tasteful and functional inside and out. In the 1970s, this car was ubiquitous and no one noticed what a masterpiece it was, because the Rekord was just a banal car of the stuffy middle class. Being a bourgeois has never been so pleasant..."
