In the Cidade do Porto 1956 cup played on the Boavista circuit, two new Porsche 550 Spyders appeared, a green car acquired by Rui Marinho de Lemos (chassis #080) and another for Filipe Nogueira (#087), who faced more modern and of much lower weight, such as the Cooper and Lotus that equipped some foreign competitors. Despite the Portuguese 550 Spyder already belonging to a new generation equipped with “space frame” chassis designed by Porsche, it was difficult for them to fight with the much faster English cars. Another Spyder 550 already known to the northern public would be piloted by José Manuel Simões, a young promise of national motorsport, who was joined by another, António Borges Barreto, who drove a Porsche 356 Carrera GS. The Porsche 356 1600S registration HA-23-35 by Dr Oliveira Martinho that can be seen in the image closed the representation of the Stuttgart brand, taking second place.
