Seller's comments about 1929' Riley Nine

The Riley Nine was one of the most successful light sporting cars produced by the British motor industry in the inter war period. It was made by the Riley company of Coventry, England with a wide range of body styles between 1926 and 1938.This 1929 Riley 9 was restored in the style of a Brooklands, this particular car were told was owned by renowned racing driver D. C. MacLachlan for over 50 years on the Irish racing scene.MacLachlan lived on a farm in Crosshaven, Country Cork, but raced Rileys to great effect at venues such as Ards, Phoenix Park and Cork amongst others. Being involved in the running of at least two garages in the area, his cars were always well prepared and incredibly effective too!Over the ensuing years he is believed to have built and prepared various sports and racing Rileys and this appears to be just such an example. It was rescued from the MacLachlan farm residence sometime after his death in need of restoration. Although little more of its early history is know at present it features the classic Brooklands Swan neck style chassis with under-slung-rear-end and correct axles.The engine has had a high amount of money spent with invoices reaching up to £6, 000 of engine work alone. It starts and runs well and has good oil pressure, and no frost damage.The drivetrain is in good order and has no nasty noises, it handles well and has good tyres all round. Also included in the sale is another pair of head lights.The bodywork is of a high quality, and was constructed by specialist Ian Pitney which of course included a new ash frame. It’s as you can imagine very solid and the underside is clean and tidy. The paintwork is far from immaculate but does present well and polishes up nicely, and the interior is in good order.There is a large history file including a VSCC logbook and the current V5, on the whole the car is in good condition, the car is now an older restoration and there is plenty of room for improvement and the chance to make it “your own”.Please feel free to contact us for further information or to arrange a viewing - a walk around video is available that can be shared.This is a commission sale and the seller is happy to consider part exchange.
