Seller's comments about 1976' Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow
This very interesting, full history car was built to special order in Masons Black with Beige leather upholstery for its first owner, the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, Viscount Leverhulme. The Rolls Royce was kept at his country estate in the Wirral and maintained by Rolls Royce dealership Hollingdrake of Liverpool. The Rolls Royce spent around 20 years with its first owner being the personal chauffeur driven transport of the Lever Brother heir, but the car was also used and made available to any Royalty when visiting the Northwest.
According to Viscount Leverhulme's personal chauffeur, Peter Blake, the Rolls Royce had been used by various members of the Royal family to include HRH the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, Princess Anne, Princess Diana and Prince, now King Charles. An Operation Order for the Chief Constable of the Cheshire Constabulary is also on file, confirming on Tuesday 30th June 1981, Her Royal Highness the Princess Margaret was to be collected in the Rolls Royce, and taken to the home of the Lord Lieutenant for an overnight stay prior to a visit of Cheshire the following day. The document makes interesting reading, listing the order of various escort vehicles, route from Stoke on Trent Town Hall to Thornton Manor, the home of Viscount Leverhulme, traffic arrangements and communications.
The Rolls Royce comes with its factory order details, advice and delivery note, specification sheet and new car order. Further to this we have the original handbooks, service book, and invoices for servicing and maintenance right throughout the car's life. The service book ownership page has the details of Viscount Leverhulme, and the Liverpool Rolls Royce agents have stamped the original book at 2559, 8095, 11921 and 24364 miles. From 1981 the Rolls Royce would head to the factory service centre at Crewe, with the book stamped at 41309 and 56291 miles, and further factory invoices confirming maintenance or servicing at 43135, 60665, 62610, 67760, 72038 and 73835 miles. Rolls Royce agents in Chester, Henlys Limited serviced the car at 80624 and 86254 miles, these are the two final service book entries during Viscount Leverhulme's ownership, but invoices also confirm maintenance with Henlys at 80624, 81319, 81647 82335, 83517 and 88159 miles before he parted with the car.
Having come out of chauffeur and the occasional Royal use in 1995, the Rolls Royce was still maintained to a very high standard with Rolls Royce Mead of Burnham servicing the car at 98713, 100999, 103902 miles, and then Broughton's of Cheltenham looked after the car with invoices at 104529 and 106396 miles. Over this period to 2007, receipts total in the region of £20, 000 for maintenance and upkeep, with invoices all kept on file detailing the work that demonstrates the car was maintained with no expense spared. Since then, the Rolls Royce has continued to be in regular use, and invoices total around £7000 for service and upkeep, taking the mileage to 120, 400 as it is today. Further to the invoices throughout the cars life, there is also an impressive file of MOT certificates, tax discs and various other paperwork making up the two comprehensive lever arch folders.
This clearly is a very special car, and without has been maintained right throughout its life to an incredibly high standard, ensuring it remains a very original vehicle that has been capable of tens of thousands of trouble free, reliable miles. To match the impressive history we can confirm the Rolls Royce presents incredibly well in its correct Masons Black, the bodywork is excellent, as is the bright work and beautiful original leather upholstery. The engine bay is very nicely detailed, and the Rolls Royce has arrived with us in strong mechanical condition, and will be supplied to its next owner freshly serviced and with a full 12 months MOT. Our car has some wonderful provenance, and we hope its next owner continues to preserve this lovely driving example.
Just arrived, pricing to follow.
