Seller's comments about 1947' Rover 12

An excellent example of the Rover Twelve Tourer, one of only 200 made by Rover and principally for export.
This car, chassis number 14, is one of 100 survivors making it a very rare motor car indeed and one of the most desirable Rover models. It was built in 1947, leaving the coachbuilders on 27th October and exported to Colonial Motors & Engineering Co. Ltd in Colombo, Ceylon. It was imported back to the UK and registered in 1950. The original colours were grey over maroon.
Today the maroon paintwork is in first class order as is the black weather equipment. The matching maroon interior boasts excellent carpets but the original leather upholstery is in need of careful repair or possible replacement.
The car is an instant starter and settles down to a very quiet idle showing good oil pressure. On the road the performance is lively – the Twelve has a reputation for being a good performer – while the ride is excellent and the Girling mechanical brakes reassuringly effective, making it a most useful touring car.
The gearbox has a lovely, precise mechanical feel and features a button to unlock reverse which is a nice feature. The famous Rover freewheel is of course fitted and all the instruments work as does the Bijur Luvax automatic chassis lubrication system.
The Rover has been superbly maintained by its engineer owner and has been used extensively for continental touring including four trips over the Alps with no issues whatsoever. The car comes with an MoT valid until May 2026
Recent work includes fitting a new wiring harness and converting the electrical system to negative earth, the fitment of a WASP Dynator in place of the dynamo, indicators, electronic ignition, new tyres and tubes plus extensive work to brakes, steering and suspension.
The Rover is clearly a very high quality car and everything about it has that feel. There is a complete tool kit in a sliding drawer under the dashboard which is thoughtfully accessible. Another interesting feature is the folding windscreen which was only fitted to the first fourteen cars making this to be the last one so fitted.
Under the bonnet everything is well presented and you will note an SU carburettor is now fitted. It is clear that the Rover has been lovingly maintained.
The car comes a large file of invoices and a buff RF60 logbook.
With few survivors, Twelve HP Tourers seldom come onto the market and so this is a rare opportunity to obtain an exceedingly good example of one of the most desirable and collectable Rover models.
A video of the car can be viewed on the St Andrews Autos YouTube channel.
As always we are willing to take an interesting vehicle in part exchange.
