1926 Vauxhall 14/ 40 ‘LM’ Princeton Tourer
(Previously supplied by us)The Vauxhall 14/ 40 was unveiled at the 1921 London Motor Show, with first customer deliveries commencing the following year. Designed by Clarence King, the model featured a robust 2. 3-litre four-cylinder engine mounted in unit with the gearbox, an advanced and durable configuration for its time.Six body styles were offered, including two- and four-door tourers, several saloon variants, Landaulette and Coupe models. In 1924 the improved ‘LM’ Series was introduced, featuring a higher compression engine developing 40 bhp, a four-speed gearbox and wire wheels in place of the earlier disc type. Like Vauxhall’s larger models, the 14/ 40 earned a strong reputation throughout the Empire, particularly in Australia and New Zealand, where demanding road conditions required motor cars of genuine engineering integrity. This particular 1926 Princeton Tourer was one of approximately 800 examples exported to Australia that year.In 1990 the car was sold in dismantled form to New Zealand, where it was comprehensively rebuilt by its then owner. Following completion, it enjoyed participation in rallies and events before returning to the United Kingdom in 2001.By 2015 the car was in the hands of a subsequent owner who invested in the region of £25, 000 with well-regarded specialists. This expenditure included a full mechanical rebuild, brake overhaul, complete rewire and carburettor overhaul. Following this work, fewer than 500 miles were covered, including participation in the Beamish Reliability Run, Dorset to Cornwall touring and the Kop Hill Climb. We were delighted to supply the car previously and she has since benefitted from further careful stewardship.Acquired by the current owner in February 2024, the Vauxhall has been the subject of additional detailed mechanical attention and sympathetic fettling to ensure she runs and presents exactly as a Vintage Vauxhall should.Recent work has included:New head gasket with cylinder head skim and new studs
Repair to a previously cracked exhaust manifold
Brakes relined and overhauled where required
Carburettor carefully fettled for improved running and reliability
Gearbox removed to replace the input shaft thrust and undertake a full inspection
Replacement of incorrect oil pressure gauge and switch panel with correct period itemsTogether with the earlier significant investment, this more recent work has truly pulled the car together. She now runs on point and drives with the eager, purposeful character for which these 14/ 40 models are known.Presented in polished aluminium coachwork with contrasting dark wings, wire wheels and a beautifully proportioned Princeton Tourer body, the car has considerable presence and undeniable Vintage charm. The extensive history file includes numerous invoices, photographs and supporting documentation detailing the car’s restoration and ongoing maintenance. An increasingly rare and highly usable Vintage Vauxhall, ready for rallies, touring and further adventures with its next custodian. To arrange your appointment view please email using the button below call the details below / the details belowWorldwide delivery can be arranged and we regularly assist with European export requirements through trusted transport partners who manage the process directly for our clients.
