Seller's comments about 1951' Volkswagen Beetle

Few cars are as famous as the Volkswagen Beetle. The original design was done towards the late 30’s but due to the second world war it took until the second half of the 40’s before production of the ‘ peoples car’ took off. The Beetle that started it all had a rear ‘split-window’ resembling a pair of glasses.
The charming ‘split window’ we have here is a 1951 car. As it is an early Beetle it dates form well before Volkswagen knew it had one of the greatest automobile icons on its hands. Our Beetle has a sober grey finish with period correct interior. The cabin is well-organised with the large 3-spoke steering wheel not obstructing the view of the single gauge, the speedometer. You not distracted by loads of gauges, switches or an excessive amount of luxury. Just look at the simplicity of the door panels with only a handle to open the window and one to open the door. A total lack of armrests, knobs or air roosters: Utter soberness and therefore quite charming in current eyes.
Tuning our attention to the car’s bodywork, simplicity continues on. The ageless lines having never really been out of vogue. Even when in 1974 the boxy Golf came along, the Beetle was never shelved. Everyone loves the Beetle in their own particular way. This version with its small taillights, rear split-window, minimal use of brightwork and colour-coded bumpers is quite unique.

The owner we acquired this Beetle from had the car in long-term ownership. A proper Volkswagen enthusiast and that shows. In is in wonderful shape since its past professional restoration. The grey paintwork is in mint condition and the panelwork and alignment are both in very good order. The upholstery is fresh and all of its switching gear is in a fine condition. It will not surprise you to find out the mechanical aspect was also totally rebuilt and works fantastically well. Exterior, interior and mechanics were thus all thoroughly taken in hand, resulting in this splendid time capsule.

Time capsule does however not refer to it being a speedy means of transport, slowly does it is the way with this Beetle. That delightful plodding air-cooled 4-cylinder 1, 131 cc boxer engine manages 25 hp. As it is very light, weighing only 725 kg, and for its time advanced aerodynamic shape the car was good for a top of 100 km/ hr. Speed was simply never its thing.

Are you looking for a car to rove around you neck of the woods, or even venture abroad, all in your own time?
Then there are few cars better able to fill that brief than this very, brimming with character, Beetle.
Why not surprise yourself in Brummen?
