From the collection of the late Mike Crowe.
In Swedish, 'Sugga' means 'SO ? not, perhaps, the most complimentary of nicknames, but the Volvo PV800 Sugga was never intended to be a glamorous model, being aimed at the both the taxi market and, in four?wheel drive form, the military. It served with both the Swedish and Belgian armed forces from World War Two onwards.

This 1954 example went into service as a TP21 Radio Command Car, fitted with a six?cylinder 3. 7?litre sidevalve petrol engine. It was imported into the UK during 1979 and has since had four registered keepers. The vendor believes that one of them was John Coghlan, the original drummer from Status Quo, who is well?known for his love of 4x4 and military machines. Although there's nothing in the paperwork to confirm this, there are images on the internet of him with this vehicle when it was registered ELT 853T, after coming to the Isle of Man at the end of the 1970s. It now wears a more age?related numberplate.

The paperwork file includes a V5, photocopied handbook, some MoTs dating back to 2004, a couple of small bills, and a 2015 copy of Windscreen: The Magazine of the Military Vehicle Trust, plus a page from a French magazine also discussing the type.
