Seller's comments about 1957' Wolseley 6/90

The Wolseley 6/ 90 was launched in 1954. It was produced in three series with various detail and body changes before the Pininfarina designed 6/ 99 took over in 1959. The car was very similar to the Riley 2. 6; quintessentially British and beautifully built, they were powered by the venerable “C” series 2. 6 litre engine, similar to that fitted in the Healey 100/ 6 but in a lower state of tune. One unusual feature was the right hand gear-change which echoes the one fitted to 50's Bentley saloon cars.
This car is a 1957 Wolseley 6/ 90 MK3 in Yukon Grey with a red leather interior. It has come to us from a regular customer who has spent very substantial sums restoring it. The restoration was comprehensive all though the engine and gearbox were deemed to be in good order from the start. The wings and doors have has new steel let in and various minor panels have been replaced or fabricated and the subsequent re-paint is to a very high standard, with arrow straight panels. The interior has been re-trimmed with new leather seat facings, headliner and carpets and the wood has been re-lacquered, to original appearance. Much of the chrome has also been re-finished. It has also had a brake overhaul and various new suspension and steering bushes fitted. We have just carried out a little detailing and a few test miles. Once the right hand gear change is mastered, it’s great fun to drive with willing power from the "C" series engine and strong brakes.
In 2019 this car was involved in what began as a minor bump with damage to the off side front wing and bonnet. Unfortunately due to the near impossibility of finding a new wing, the insurance company deemed it to be beyond economical repair. It was then rescued by the Wolseley register who sold it to the new owner who eventually found a good replacement wing – in New Zealand. The car was inspected and no hidden damage was found so he embarked on restoration, much of it done by a restorer known to the register. There is no invoice for the restoration (although there are plenty of photos) but he calculates the spend to be well in excess of £20k. After all of this work and effort but not many miles he decided that he is happier at the wheel of his Wolseley 4/ 44 so it is offered here for sale.
This car is rare and unusual; there are only around fifty 6/ 90 cars left on UK roads and perhaps just twenty MK3 models. It’s also in beautiful order and is certain to attract attention, even at some of the more prestigious shows and it is offered here at much less than it has had spent on it.
