Land Rover Series I was built between 1948 and 1958. Originally the Land Rover was a single model offering, which from 1948 until 1951 used an 80-inch wheelbase, a 1.6-litre petrol engine, and a four-speed gearbox, with a two-speed transfer box and a freewheel unit. This was a basic vehicle, tops for the doors and a roof, canvas or metal, were optional extras.
Various changes were made over the years, such as to the wheel base, which ended up with a choice of 88” or 109”, and to the engines, with a choice of 2 litre petrol or 2 litre diesel.

A rare 1951 Land Rover 80" Series I with the for one year only, cut out grille. Built in the latter part of 1951 as a UK car with the problematic 2 litre siamese bore engine. These engines were known for overheating as they had no cooling tubes between the cylinders. As such this car has a more reliable and well known as "bullet proof” Isuzu 1.7td engine fitted. This has had a recent head rebuild with a new water pump, radiator and timing belt. This engine has loads of power and makes the ‘Landy’ more drivable. It comes with the free-wheel front hubs making it both 2 and 4 wheel drive. Original in all other parts, and the removable canvas looks to be original and is in good condition. As is, the body work and the paint has a lovely patina. In all it looks like a proper Land Rover should.
