The Austin A55 MK2 was produced for just two years from 1959. It was roomier and more modern than its predecessor, which had a similar body to the A40 produced in the fifties. The 1498cc “B” series engine was fitted with an “SU” carburettor, allowing respectable performance and MPG.This car is a 1961 A55 in grey with a grey leather interior. The mileage reading is 34, 000, which may well be correct. The condition of the upper body is superb with a level of originality that is hard to find on these cars. The body lines are crisp and there is an absence of repairs or filler and the underside is excellent. The paint is also in very good; there are various minor flaws and touch-ins but no rust. The interior is in good original order with a high quality replacement carpet set. On the road, this Farina drives beautifully; the engine is quiet with good oil pressure and the gearbox is precise and crunch free. There are some cosmetic flaws – the chrome on both bumpers is imperfect and there are a one or two shallow dents (which could be removed) but otherwise this car presents very well with a level of originality that is hard to find on these cars. The last owner is a regular customer who paid substantially more than our asking price for it then further money on various improvements and new parts; a new clutch, “Viper” performance coil, electronic ignition, spin off oil filter conversion, stainless exhaust and new tyres.These robust cars are great value right now, this one is quite original and in beautiful condition. It is surprising to think that a Morris Minor in this condition would be more expensive but this car is much rarer and better to drive. Ready to use.Viewing at Biddulph, Stafffs.
