1926 Rolls Royce 20hp 2 door drophead.

Chassis number: GUK47
Registration number FE8563

A very very period looking Rolls Royce 20hp. The car originally was ordered from Rolls Royce in 1926 with the cryptic note on the chassis records "providing own coachwork." There is also mention of the car going to Arthur Mulliner of Northampton & springs were specified for a saloon.

In recent years the car has had a most comprehensive rebuild with over £65,000 pounds worth of bills in the history file. This included a complete engine rebuild just a few years & not many miles ago. The engine is thus in superb order, running in silence & providing sprightly performance when coupled with the light coachwork. Most of the above works were performed by marque specialists Milford Vintage Engineeering in Perthshire for which a large sheaf of bills are available.

The body is based upon a 1919 body from another car & has been substantially rebuilt. It takes the form of a 2 door convertible with a useful luggage area & interior box to the rear. Whilst not a true dickey seat set up, the current owners children have done many miles in the car sitting on the rear box, making the car an occasional 4 seater.

Period features abound on the car & overall it has a very pleasing appearance. Pleasing enough indeed to regularly take home a bottle of bubbly as the Judges choice of the car they would most like to take home from the various shows it has attended much to the consternation of other entrants.

The brief when rebuilding the car was to give it a patinated vintage appearance & this has been achieved with aplomb. The leather on the seats & door cards bears the hallmaks of age as do the floor board timbers etc. The dash is of oak & has a full set of period instrumentation, the odometer currently reading 9877 miles.

The car sits on 4 nearly new Excelsior tyres with a 5th spare wheel mounted to the rear. The black canvas hood erects easily & is restrained by a pair of forwards affixed leather bridlehide straps further enhancing the cars period look when coupled with the steeply raked windscreen. Brass spotlamps & a Boa Constrictor type horn complete the ensemble.

To sum up, this is a car needing nothing with all the money having been already spent upon it. This includes a full brake overhaul, re-cored radiator, retempered leaf springs & rebuild of the rear axle in addition to the engine rebuild. Driving it is a pleasure, albeit one we do not expect to enjoy for long as pretty cars such as this sell quickly.
