Sales informationDutch head-turnerBack in the day, talking about a 1977 model year car, an Alfa Romeo Montreal was already a very special car. We can safely say that there were at the time many dealers who never sold this Milanese top model and stayed with the, naturally also handsome, Alfetta. A total of only 3, 925 Montreals were built in the 1970–1977 period. A number low enough to be regarded as exclusive nowadays. A genuine head-turner when you park something this beautiful among all the grey, uniform cars. The designer responsible for the fantastic lines was the recently deceased Marcello Gandini, then working for Carrosseria Bertone. This man really knew what was beautiful, for example the Lamborghini Miura, the futuristic Countach and the iconic Lancia Stratos also sprang from his drawing board. How wonderful that there are still beautiful examples preserved. Most have now been restored and are cherished by enthusiasts who are determined to keep this slice of Italian automotive history rolling so that everyone can enjoy it. And that enjoyment doesn't seem difficult, because the aforementioned design is, from whatever angle you view the car, always spectacularly beautiful. And especially note the beautiful details such as the fold-down "eyelashes" over the headlamps, the louvers behind the doors (where, by the way, a hint of Miura design can still be seen), or the unique fully glazed rear hatch. And then the engineering: an Alfa engine is always a masterpiece, but a V-8 DOHC with fuel injection, directly descended from the famous Tipo 33 race car, is truly a jewel. Beautifully smooth, all-aluminium, 4 camshafts and enough power for the relatively light car.In this case the engine has also been rebuilt and, of course, photos have been taken of it. This V-8 is then paired with a wonderfully smooth five-speed gearbox. Takes a bit of getting used to, as the pattern is the so-called "dog-leg" type, with first gear to the bottom left and second gear up. A true 'Alfist' will master it quickly. The interior comfortably accommodates two people and the rear bench plus large boot offer plenty of space for suitcases and bags. A proper Alfa to enjoy cruising on fast and twisty back roads. This Alfa Romeo Montreal is an original car delivered in the Netherlands and was registered on 13 March 1977. There are three known owners and certainly the second has invested quite a bit to bring the car to its current condition. The most recent owner has again paid particular attention to the suspension. With work such as correct polyurethane bushings in the suspension, Bilstein shock absorbers, Alfaholics springs and matching stabiliser bars at the front, you won't recognise the Montreal in terms of handling and road grip. The car now responds instantly to every movement of the steering wheel, lean is just right, the ride height is right and the suspension is comfortable yet communicative. That’s how we like it. And really Alfa should have delivered cars like this back then. No matter: this Montreal now steers as we have never experienced before. And the best part is: you would hardly notice, so the originality remains intact.Dozens of invoices and hundreds of photos show the journey this fine Italian coupe has undertaken. A journey on which the owners have invested substantially and enjoyed. That enjoyment can now continue with the proviso that you do not have to invest. Simply keep it in normal condition and do what this Alfa Romeo Montreal was made for: driving.
