In 1963 as a lad of 14 I accompanied my grandfather in his old Standard 10 to Clifton garage to part exchange his car for a new Mini. As the invoice shows although roadworthy the Standard was only valued at £10. The Mini is a basic model with no opening rear windows or heater. My grandparents enjoyed modern motoring up until 1987 when my grandfather gave up driving. I decided to have the car and has been in my ownership since. In the seventies I fitted an SPQR remote gear change for my grandfather but have since replaced the original magic wand. In the early eighties his local BMC garage suggested he had a new rear subframe and also as the red paint was fading a respray would be a good idea. As the picture shows the roof has imperfections in the paintwork due to me leaving a damp blanket on it a few years ago. The car has not been restored but had a small patch welded in the floor and under the rear seat. Since in my ownership the most significant items which have been changed are clutch, radiator and new as original Newton Commercial front seat covers. I have recently fitted new tyres and new battery. The car had appx 14000 miles on the Speedo when I took over the car as it had a replacement speedo fitted at appx 29000. I have done about 15000 since. MOTs available. The car is original but would undoubtably benefit from the odd bush replacement, gaiters etc. The engine runs sweetly on unleaded with lead additive. Not that it bothered my grandfather but it would sometimes drop out of third gear on the overrun, something which did not bothers him and has certainly not spoiled our motoring enjoyment over the past 34 years and had been happening since the car was about 3years old. The car is in regular use adding appx 15 miles per month. The car will be advertised elsewhere in due course.
