Between 1899 and 1935, a wide range of automobiles, railcars, engines and motorboats were created under the historic Austro Daimler brand. In 1928, Austro Daimler, Grazer Puchwerke AG and OeFFAG were merged to form "Austro Daimler Puchwerke AG". However, due to the global economic crisis and the imposed luxury car strategy, the last automobiles were manufactured in Wiener Neustadt in 1931. This also included the ADR 11/70 hp with a six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3 liters, which could be fitted with different bodies from the coachbuilders of the time. The 4-seater interior steering convertible was described as follows in the sales brochure: "Despite the sporty line, very comfortable and thanks to the luggage compartment it is ideal as a 4-seater touring car."
The example presented here dates from 1928 and, according to the documents available, was located in southern Germany between 1936 and 1949. Afterwards, its trace was lost, but it was found and purchased in disassembled condition by the current owner and vintage car collector in Germany in the early 2000s. As part of an immensely complex work that took around 10 years, the vehicle was completely but carefully restored or reconstructed in such a way that as much of the original substance as possible was preserved. The entire mechanics were overhauled and are now in original, perfect condition. The body, designed as an interior control convertible with four spacious seats - described in the contemporary sales brochure as "one of the most beautiful bodies of this type, won the highest awards in beauty competitions, only shown off so magnificently on the ADR chassis" - corresponds to the contemporary appearance and is in excellent condition. Some parts, such as the interior, the fittings and the nickel-plated trim, which were unfortunately no longer there, were replaced or rebuilt with contemporary duplicates. A very special feature of this Austro Daimler is the double ignition, which was exclusively reserved for the "Bergmeister" models from the factory - making it a very valuable and sought-after component. All of these facts give this perfectly drivable witness to Austrian automotive history a very special flair of originality and mystery, which has also been confirmed by Austro-Daimler experts and renowned Austrian restorers.
