Seller's comments about 1928' Ford Model A
1928 Ford Model A Sport Coupe For consignment, a 1928 Ford Model A sport coupe, one of more than 10 body styles of the Model A available to consumers. This car was the recipient of a professional frame off restoration in 2009 and has an interior by upholsterer Bill Storm. Per our consignor, this is a very correct car for the Model A purist, and were proud to represent it in the Hallowed Halls of Classic Auto Mall. Restoration photos will accompany the car. Exterior Duchess Blue covers the body of the car in a deep aqua tone, augmented by a blue stripe trimmed in tan pinstriping that runs from the door, tapering back as it rides the contours of the rear section. Contrast is provided by black paint which coats the fenders, running board, wire wheels and the horn. Lovely metal work includes the ribbon like bumpers, the grille surround, side mirror, brake light casing, and door handles. The tan canvas top is in impeccable condition and wears body keyed landau bars, a glass rear window, and a matching canvas visor. A spare wire wheel and tire are mounted on the back just behind a rumble seat which when opened, reveals a smooth, brown vinyl bench with matching piping in beautiful condition. We did not find any exterior imperfections on this handsome Model A. Interior With a color very close to the top of the car, brown tweed door panels feature a decorative header ribbon, door hardware, and a pleated cloth map pocket on each door. This material is carried over to the bench seat where channel tufting creates vertical stitched lines from top to edge of seat bottom. A brown 4 spoke steering wheel leads to a satin finished aqua dash and a center, clover leaf control panel in polished metal. A simple shifter rises cleanly from the floor where more brown tweed is fitted and clean. The ceiling is unmarred and surrounds occupants in a warm, tan cocoon. Drivetrain Under the engine cover is a clean 20ci inline 4 cylinder engine, rated at 40 horsepower and backed by a 3-speed sliding-gear manual transmission which transfers power to the rear axle with 3.78 gears. Four wheel mechanical drum brakes were standard in 28 and are present on the car. The engine bay is clean and original looking and serves as a fine example of Model A configuration. Undercarriage The spotless underside is almost like time travel to 1928 when this car rolled off the revolutionary assembly line. It only shows slight signs of usage reserved mostly for the long stock style muffler that intersects the single exhaust which ends just before the rear axle. Transverse leaf springs are found front and rear. Theres no grease, no leaks, and no surface rust as a black frame surrounds aqua floor pans for a very nice presentation. Drive-Ability The Model A was the first Ford to use standard driver controls with clutch, brake pedals, throttle, and gearshift, and were thrilled to utilize these driver friendly features. The car rolls along in typical fashion with no notable issues, a true testament to early American auto manufacturing. And the limited functionality of a 1928 vehicle all operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. This is a collector grade Model A that is well worth your consideration if youre in the market for one of these iconic Ford carriages. Spectacular paint, a spotless interior, and a correct engine in good working condition all bode well for a car that represented many firsts that are still found in cars nearly 100 years later.
